    Best budget crossbow?

I picked up a Jackal from Walmart a couple years ago for $120 on a whim. The thing is damn accurate and I’ve killed a boatload of deer with it in the urban herd control hunt I participate in. I don’t know why but I take a little pride in killing deer with a super cheap Walmart special crossbow

    Treestand mod for hybrid setup

I’ve been wanting to use a hybrid set up for awhile but couldn’t get myself to do it because I much prefer to sit in my saddle. Hopefully this solves that issue.

First hunt with recurve. Having major anxiety leaving the wheels at home.

I am on my third season with using only my traditional bow and I haven’t really had any situations where I had to pass on deer that I could’ve easily gotten with the compound. Make sure you take your time picking the tree you set up in and focus on getting close. I’ve noticed over the past two...

    Total arrow weight

I shoot a recurve that’s around 45# or so and I shoot 400 spine black eagles with a 300 grain broadhead and I believe a 200 grain insert. Total arrow weight is around 740. I love it because my point on is around 23 yards And I struggle to aim way below my intended target. It only shoots around...

    New from Wisconsin

I guess I’ll be representing from central Wisconsin. Welcome!

Rut action in Wisconsin in February?

I saw two bucks chasing a doe midday on Sunday in central Wisconsin. I thought it was a little odd but it’s not the first I’ve heard of them breeding this late. There are going to be some small fawns next summer

    Off Season Activity Idea

While everyone is out scouting, shooting their bows and getting their gear ready for next year. I’m planning to take a programming class to learn how to write a program that auto installs McAffee antivirus upon opening. I can then put this program on a bunch of SD cards that I can put in a bunch...

Dumb question - cutting arrows - using disc in miter saw?

I’ve cut a lot of arrows just using an angle grinder and then squaring it off by putting one end of the arrow in a drill and putting the other end against sand paper. It is not the most accurate set up but it works. I have since made a jig using the small cutoff saw everyone has above and that...

    Traditional bow draw length help

http://peteward.com/AMOStandards.pdf#:~:text=AMO%20Draw%20Length%20is%20the%20distance%20to%20Pivot,at%20which%20manufacturers%20weight%20and%20mark%20conventional%20bows. I always thought that it was from the string to the grip but according to this document it looks like it is from the string...

    I’ve been told…

I made the switch to almost exclusively trad this year for hunting and I noticed that it did affect my compound shooting a bit but It certainly didn’t destroy it. One thing that helped going back and forth was switching from a trigger release to a hinge release.

    Tethrd Skeletor Sticks

Looks like an upgraded set of hawk heliums. I think they’ll do really well with these given the features at that price point. The rope attachment system is worth the extra cost themselves (compared to the heliums)

Why do I fall apart at distance?

I'd guess it has something to do with you just psyching yourself out. I had a difficult time at first shooting at 30 yards (my point on is 25 yards) but I just kept telling myself to keep good form and shot sequence, trust my aiming point (for this range it was top of the deer) and follow...

    Frankenstein Ambush platform

Yeah I guess you don't know unless you try. I was originally thinking about going down a route like that but I was worried that it would try and roll out of position once you put weight on it. If I had some time to tinker I would've given it a try but I had to get it ready for hunting this...

    Frankenstein Ambush platform

In case anyone is looking for ideas on how to level the platform with this type of build. I did it by 3D printing a rectangle with the hole off center. This allows me to turn the rectangle piece and get 4 different platform angles. I have only had one sit with this platform so far but it seems...

    High shoulder shot with crossbow

Yes I know that shooting them in the lungs is the best shot overall and I was not suggesting that everyone starts shooting deer in the high shoulder. I was purely asking the question because I have spots that I’m doing herd control in where I’m literally hunting in peoples yards and if the deer...
