    Bow sight?

Spot Hog here too. It has taken the worst of the swamps I hunt for over a decade and works like the day I put it on. Doubt I will ever need another sight but if I do it will be a Hog.

    How many sticks?

I carry 3 with a 2 step CAYG aider. 20' without having to stretch out too much. A one stick move at the top if I need more. I go between one stick and multiple sticks. It just depends on the situation.

    Favorite time to scout?

Right after the snow melts out but before the swamp fully thaws. No better time to see the lay of the land and being mostly frozen you can walk across ground that you can't later in the year.

    JX3 and one sticking

I have a dump pouch on my chest pack that I use to carry my rope. I also have dump pouches on each side of my JX3. I don't keep rope in those but you could. I like the chest rig as it balances out the weight of the JX3 and makes it more comfortable to carry. I use the side pouches for my...

Green Light for walk in/set up

Been running a green light for 20 years. Streamlight pen style is my go to. The only drawbacks I have found is it does not see red reflective or blood. Red looks jet black in a green light. It is outstanding at seeing blue reflective so all my marks are blue reflective. Much brighter than red...

If rain starts, additional gears suggestion to keep hunting on the ground?

I would stay put and hunt. Sell it as being safer ..... Better visibility, less slippery and all that. Maybe get a new set of rain gear for optimal safety. A rappel kit too. Safety first I always say.

Nothing says fall is coming like dirty kings at the pier heads.

Why do you not kill the deer you are after?

Because I settle for an easy shot on a 2.5 year old more often than I like to admit.

First 30lb King of the year. Just replaced a nicked leader on this rod 15 minutes before this fish hit. Good call.

    Better Pull-Down Rope Clips

I picked up a Cypher wire gate carabiner for my pull down rope. CE rated at 24/8, so it could be an emergency carabiner in a worst-case scenario. Overkill for sure but for $5 seemed like a no-brainer.

    Oh the irony…

Michigan posts all timber sales by county with maps and cutting descriptions. When the field marking happens there will be a hard map in the forest. The loggers usually have a couple of years to make it happen so when they cut is a little sketchy.

    Oh the irony…

I hear yah. My upland stands in Lake County have near 100% turnover every 7-10 years. Sometimes stands that don't get cut dry up as the deer adapt to the new edges, cover (or lack of cover) and food sources. I have embraced the cutting and enjoy the new challenge ..... not many other options...

Traditional from a JX3 is a little challenging.

Put in a half dozen elevated sessions so far and getting to know some of the drawbacks. More movement and some noise if you have to slide the bridge to one side to shoot at close range. I have not been able to get a gradual slide going so I get a little noise when I reach the bridge knot. Shot...

Four fish landed. Kept the 2 kings and returned both steelhead. 90 degrees at the dock but the water was 47 on top at fishing depth. It was heaven to get away from the heat and pollen for a few hours.

    2023 Fishing Thread

It's the start of the dog days of summer for salmon fishing. The water has warmed near shore and the fish have scattered a little. Picked up 4 on our last trip. Managed to release 2 hen steelhead .... keeping those egg factories producing. Put 2 eater kings in the cooler. Grilled them with...
