Are some rubber boots better with ground scent?

I've had mixed results with the Nose Jammer. Some deer would get downwind or cross my trail and show no reaction at all. Others would get nervous and wander off. I did have a few flip out and hit the afterburners to get out of town, even after I'd had other deer not react to it. I do still use...

    Saddle Tree Setup Discussion

If I were setting up like this, especially if I anticipate rotating around the tree to my right, I might put the tether on the other trunk, the one closer to me. Just personal preference.

How to invent stuff if you're not a maker-person

You might check with a local small business association. They would probably be able to give you some really good advice and information resources on how to approach this situation.

    2024 fishing thread

You're getting me fired up! Thursday my brothers and I are heading out to nab a few crappie (they aren't on the banks yet, but should be close), then next Thursday through Sunday I'll be down at Broken Bow Lake (OK) for a tournament. Two days pre-fishing, and two days for the tournament. Don't...

Anyone use John Eberharts scent control methods?

I don't follow his regimen 100% - it's way too much for me, but I have found a level I can live with, and is producing good results. I don't follow any special practices with my vehicle - the dog and wife regularly ride with me during hunting season. I refuse to do any special shaving for...

    2024 fishing thread

The bluegills in the pond next to the house can't refuse a pink squirminator. But they max out at about 3 1/2". I could thin them out and let them get bigger, but they do a fantastic job eating all the mosquito larvae.

    2024 fishing thread

That is fantastic. I don't tie any dry flies, mostly because I don't get much opportunity to use them, and partly because I'm a horrible tyer. Is that mostly mallard or wood duck? (other than the hackle) Stocker rainbows love my half-assed nymphs, worm, and egg patterns.

    Tree Risk Assessing

Another thing that keeps me out of trees is poison ivy. I've scouted areas that had it on pretty much every tree around the deer sign/travel path, so I just kind of mentally labeled the whole area off limits.

    Scrape soil, does it matter?

I agree with this 100%. On one of my cameras I had out this fall, there was not a scrape in the area, but the deer that did walk by all stopped and worked a branch that was just out of view.

Who uses a ring of steps?

Trees I hunt I'd be seriously limited with a ROS. Very few pole shaped trees, so I usually have a limb or two in the way, preventing me from moving around the tree. Might be waist high, might be head high, but either way, it's hard to move. The platform lets me turn around as much as needed, so...

    My challenge to you

It's my new alibi - It's not mine - I'm making extra money from other guys shipping their stuff to me to repackage and send to them.

Hind sight question for cross eye dominance

I'm also cross dominant - right handed, left eyed. I shoot a shotgun left handed, and practice with a rifle both ways. Just sitting here reading this thread, I really couldn't have told you what I do with my bow. I had to pick it up and try it out. I was kind of surprised to discover that I...

    My challenge to you

So, what if what the piece of gear I buy is significantly less expensive than what it's replacing, and ends up being way less stuff to actually have in my possession? Is that OK? Like buying a few yards of webbing to create a foot loop to 2TC, and ditching all the sticks I've been using? I...

    My challenge to you

Won't work. I have cash to buy new stuff, but not much time for additional scouting. Unless someone comes up with a way to add an eighth or ninth day to the week.
