    I think I’m done rappelling - Rant/Question

Yes, do a search for JRB Maverick hitch. Works fantastic, holds to tree w/o need of ohm locker and so easy to retrieve. This is my method as well and love it. The JRB Running Hitch is also good but like the Maverick better. It's all preference but would much rather carry 35-40' of rope than 3...

Keeping carabiner in place while climbing with rappel line

Consider trying the maverick or running JRB hitch when practicing in off season. Very easy and quick to tie w/ just a little practice and way easier to retrieve rappel line at end of hunt. They both work fantastic and don't slide down the tree. I will never go back to using a quick link or...

    Stagg Stealth Pack

Interested in this pack but didn't see any discussion in search history. Anyone have any feedback? Thanks

    8 or 9 mm ropes

Was using 8mm RescTech for one-stick/rappel but switching back to 9mm Canyon. Liked the compactness of 8mm but not as easy to tie JRB running hitch and it is stiffer so binds a bit pulling on the exploding hitch at end of climb.

    New Gear for 2023, Go!

RDA one stick, adjustable amsteel tether, JRB running hitch. This has been working so well for me that I don't know where I can go from here. Half the fun is improving the set-up but I'm sure someone will come up with some other new method or gizmo that grabs my attention.

    Best backband?

Thanks for all the suggestions. The sit/drag has been good, weighs next to nothing and takes little to no room in my pack but just bunches up too much. Probably going the commercially made route or wait until one shows up in classifieds.

    Best backband?

Currently use a sit/drag I modified by sewing webbing to and works ok but wants to fold up on me. Looking for something better and would like to get some opinions.

Friction Hitch Getting Caught in Delta Link?

In the offseason, try practicing the running JRB hitch instead of a quick link. No metal, easy to tie w/ a little practice, stays on tree better (won't slide and no need for tether locker) and is exploding hitch so super simple to pull down from tree. Loving this method.

Pull down rope on JRB cinch question

Thought of playing with this as well but seemed like too much trouble when going around limbs. I suppose w/ practice you could tie it quickly. Is it easy to move up the tree when climbing?

Season ended, list your failed gears/methods/etc that you would not use again! And what do you plan to do differently next year

Made switch from 9mm canyon rope, modified Hawk one stick and EDP platform to 8mm rope, RDA one stick, JRB cinch method and removable whoopie bridge. So far really liking this set up after just a few practice climbs. Been resisting trying the Madrock but may give it a whirl as well in off...

Pull down rope on JRB cinch question

I just put a strip of hockey tape on the outside edge of the biner where it contacts the rappel ring but leave the internal surface clean and this has helped. No tape on ring. It still doesn't drop as easily as the quick link attachment method but believe it's because the rappel ring is so much...

    61 degrees below zero

-25 w/o windchill, just another nice day in MN, actually took a nice doe on that sit and gutting a deer never felt so good! Rarely hit the woods when it is over 65.
