What (If Anything) Do You Eat Prior to An Early-Morning Hunt?

Humble pie with a side order of crow. Oh wait...that's what I normally eat AFTER the hunt!

Whats up with the 'Sladder Climbing system"?

Thanks. I suspected that. Just thought I'd ask.

Whats up with the 'Sladder Climbing system"?

Is the Sladder method strictly for a rappel back to ground, or is it reasonable to use the Sladder for ascending and depending?

A long sleeved croc? Lite Boots?

Just an fyi... I went to the Tingley site just to compare and one thing that I read was the warning about leaving them in a hot car, near a heat source, etc because the boots can deform. I can tell you to pay heed to that warning. I left my Tingley in a hot car for just a few hours and one boot...

A long sleeved croc? Lite Boots?

I have not tried those but they look a lot like Tingley boots.

    Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

It was early when I made post #217 and I neglected to mention a couple things. 1) When you email the screen shot of the donation acknowledgement, please put your Saddlehunter forum handle in the subject line. It will help me keep everything straight in case I need to contact, or pester someone...

    Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

You guys need to send me a PM with your name and address. Also tell me if you want them rigged with clips. You will donate $25 (or more) to SOWF. When they email you the acknowledgement, take a screen shot of it and send it to handymantoms@gmail.com.

    New Gear for 2023, Go!

Here we go again with the odor discussion. I don't think enough guys stop and think about residual odors we leave behind that may effect future hunts at that tree. They also seldom talk about the lesser intensity of our odor in the fringes of our scent cone. And as far as I know, I'm the only...

    Lets talk hammocks

If my wife ain't happy then I probably won't be getting good sleep...those 2 choices go hand in hand.

    Lets talk hammocks

This is the type of hammock that I am referring when I asked about hanging 2 of them from the same 2 trees. Basically one facing 6 o'clock and the other facing 12 o'clock. It's probably not that simple. Might need them at 2 different heights or something. If it can work, then it sure would...

    Lets talk hammocks

At this point, I'm strictly a curious, window shopper for hammocks but I'm really drawn to something like an Amok style hammock. I like that you can side sleep, back sleep, or whatever. Amok come with a pad so I assume UQ would only be needed in extremely cold weather. One other thing that I...

    Lets talk hammocks

So when its late in the day and you must set camp, and there aren't 2 suitable trees to hang from, what are you doing? How do you rig to use the tarp, bug net, etc on the ground? I'm really intrigued with the hammock concept of not needing level or smooth ground. It seems like it would be great...

    Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

It's a clip used for ID badge. Any little clip will do as long as it keeps the pod quickly accessible with minimal movement and keeps me from dropping it.

New to cameras... Should I move it? or wait it out?

It amazes me how deer can be within feet of a camera and somehow they don't get their picture taken. I've had a few cams within sight, or just out of sight of my home for many years. Occasionally I will watch a critter approach a camera and I get excited that I'll probably have a couple of pics...

    Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

Thanks for the reply. For a lot of years, I used them just the way you described. Peel the tip back, pluck a floater, the stick the pod in my pocket. The trouble that I had so many times was the pod ended up on the ground 18 feet below me. That's why I started using the clips. I put them on the...

    Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

Pods for a Cause generated a lot of interest in the first couple of years but it seems to be losing a little steam. Time for a jump-start? I've changed a few things. Tell me what you think...Frank opinions are welcome. I'm getting a few questions and requests for pods. This is a cut and paste...

Hard antler PA buck on Aug 12th

Resurrecting this thread... Had a hard antlered spike walk thru my yard this morning (Aug 19th). Not quite as early as last year's early sighting but it is a bit on the early side for around here, maybe by 10 days to 2 weeks.
