    Would you hunt an area......

Same here. I’ve had non-hunters offer that sort of thing before and while they meant well, they just didn’t understand the logistics involved of shooting a big game animal in a neighborhood backyard :D

    Why oh why?

Using electronic muffs during gun season has a way of training you to distinguish sounds in the woods otherwise you'll get whiplash :D Armadillos are the ones that still get me from time to time. Their pace is slow and consistent though, that's usually how I pick them out from deer.

    Twig stoves

I'm just a car camper these days but I could see that firebox being a nice addition. In my backpacking days, I didn't like making fires that much because I didn't want to leave fire rings behind so only cooked on gas stoves. Having a little self contained fire pit so to speak would be nice.

    Ear muffs

Howard Leights are the best bang for the buck I've tried. I have some Walkers in the ear digital units that have better sound quality but they were 5x the cost. The trick I've found is to not turn the volume up too loud. Even if the sound quality of the unit is good, once the volume gets too...

    Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

Not surprised by that at all. Year after year I see pigs in more and more areas.

    E-bike truck bed mount

I use a hitch mount for my suv if I’m not keeping it inside the vehicle. They’re super easy and I wouldn’t get one with a ratchet strap either. Used hitch racks are available all over marketplace, no need to buy a new one

    E-bike truck bed mount

I don’t have a pickup but I am a mountain biker and see tons of people using tailgate pads. https://www.jensonusa.com/blog/youtube/top-5-mountain-bike-tailgate-pads-2024

Picked up a new saddle pistol

There are a number of good ones but the bad ones simply won’t handle the snappy recoil of a handgun. I used to hunt with a 375 JDJ and a 209x45 and if I remember I think I trashed 4 scopes with those 2 pistols alone :D

Picked up a new saddle pistol

I forgot about the Weaver, that's a good scope. I have one on a pistol that hasn't used in a long time but it withstood some punishment.

Picked up a new saddle pistol

There may be something new on the market because I haven’t kept up but Leupold and Burris are the two main options. I like the 2x, 4x and the Burris 2-7 for hunting. They all have wider fields of view at shorter ranges and short enough eye reliefs to be shootable from a stand. The Leupold 2.5-8...

    Deer hunting with dogs

Didn’t read the article but I don’t particularly like people running dogs where I hunt but I wouldn’t vote to ban it. I’m in favor of their right to do it but from what I’ve seen it’s dying out on its own. Hear fewer and fewer hounds every year. With the pig populations being what they are we...

    2024-2025 Hog Forum

Makes one reconsider the necessity of large cartridges for deer hunting. After using handguns for deer and seeing their effectiveness (assuming good bullet selection), going back to something like a 30-06 feels like hunting with artillery shells :D

I hunt after work and see a lot of pigs in the evening but like you say, the trade off is dealing with them in the dark.

    LWCG Crossover Climber Reviews

Agreed! I’ve never seen the stick trick before but looks like it works. I’ve only used the old summits or lone wolf for many years but still have a couple summits with that style safety. Will have to try it

    LWCG Crossover Climber Reviews

Possibly :D The old style Summits with the aluminum flip tabs were the easiest for that

    2024-2025 Hog Forum

Pretty interesting and pretty expensive :D I bought a few boxes of it on sale (still $4 a shot) to try but the cost is tough to take. Picking up a Ruger Precision 22 WMR tomorrow morning since I'm not really a shotgun guy but I'd still like to compare the effectiveness of the two.
