    SRT for bigger people

I've trained with some of the top climbers in the country and L3 rope access technicians. Not one time were Figure 8s ever discussed, demoed. Nor did I find them referenced in IRATA or SPRAT documentation. I wouldn't be opposed to having one as a backup if there's a training org out there...

    SRT for bigger people

You asked , here's my answer. A figure 8 is a descender only. Can you bastardize it to work as an ascender? Maybe. But you could also probably use a kitchen towel as a friction saver...at least for a little while Saddle hunting guys are creative and that's not necessarily a bad thing. But when...

    SRT for bigger people

Yep, it's an ABD. The guidance about "hand on rope" is because Madrock is expecting you to use it dynamically for lead or top rope climbing. Using it statically won't cause issues if you're in spec. I keep one handy on me doing tree work as a backup. It's my bailout device :)

Yes. I personally use KMIII Max and will be using KM G next year. Both 11mm where are you located?

    SRT for bigger people

If you use Kermantle, which ascenders are designed for, there's no concern with it Hand ascenders act as life safety in some industries and sometimes there are 2 people on one hand ascender (rescue) when lifting them up to remove them from their respective descender

    SRT for bigger people

if I were you, I'd get a descender like a Megawatt and 10mm rope. It's not so bad to pack. I use 11mm rope most places. No need to backup a Megawatt

    SRT for bigger people

No, I only do that if I'm rope walking. For the method I described, you do the following: -Attach hand ascender above descender -Run tag end of descender through pulley -Run the tag end of your rope (coming off pulley) to the foot ascender. Usage: Move the ascender up, move your foot up and...

    SRT for bigger people

I like using a foot ascender on the tail end of my rope over a foot loop. Much more pleasant experience. I despise foot loops If you use a knee ascender, and you're planning to truly rope walk, you'll need a bigger diameter rope and a descender with a straight rope channel. Otherwise, try the...

    Edelrid Megawatt

Been using it since it came out. I use it primarily for saddle hunting. I've used pretty much all the rope access style descenders, the Megawatt is the smoothest

Hand ascender will see roughly half of your weight with RADS SRT. I wouldn't basal tie my anchors at your weight.

do arborists actually climb this way?

In my experience, I don't see a lot of guys doing that anymore. Most major brand spikes have a place to affix a foot ascender for a reason. I climb with an SRS system + lanyard (Zillon) when gaffing up for a removal. That's the way I was trained and that's the way I do it.

do arborists actually climb this way?

Makes limb walking easier. Careful doing it with an RRP though Kevin's a cool dude and will personally answer any questions you have

do arborists actually climb this way?

A lot of guys ascend SRS and switch to MRS when in the canopy. Not too many guys ascending from the ground on MRS. Foot locking is making a comeback for some old heads though Climbing is far from dead lol. Don't believe me, go look at how many major tree companies are still hiring climbers...

    Shortening a Prusik Cord?

Their cords are 18kN. So provided you don't put more than 400lbs on it, you're good. Most of your weight is on the climbing line anyway

    Gear you liked/disliked 2024

The Predator CFX platform has been great. It's so light, it stays inside my pack even when I haul my Onestick in. Killed my biggest buck to date standing on it I'll also add the Latitude Lonestar. It's pretty amazing

    Madrock Safeguard Failure

I asked because of the potential for sap to be on your rope and get into your device. I've had the same thing happen with a $400 descender during a job. It's almost always a foreign object (or operator error). BTW: Rope creep is usually caused by a dirty rope. I have videos of rope access...
