    Accuracy from saddle vs stand

First time I started practicing from a saddle, I set targets all around, in and out, and was amazed at how well I shot. Felt like what made a diff. for me was I either had a hip or knee against the tree which tightened up my pivot point/ more stable. Have had no issues with rifle either.

Fractional yardage for a rangefinder necessary?

Shooting fixed pins at 10 yrd spacing I dont have much space between pins more than to estimate qtr increments (2 1/2 yrds) between. And on my good days, I can frequently be w/in 1-2 inches out to 50 yrds so a 1/2 yard wouldn't matter to me.

The New, New Gear. 2025 Edition

I not so curious about its breadcrumb tracking as in how well it actually shows the blood. Appears that walking along with phone probably about belly height that it would show blood in high contrast (something like luminal but in red or another chosen color while all else is dark shades of...

    Wrap Or Not To Wrap?

Wrapped my platform more to quiet any possible bumping against sticks or whatever, the edge definitely being the most frenquently hit when careless or clumsy. Freezing has not been an issue as up to now if they got wet, its raining with no chance of it freezing. If it were freezing rain, ice...

    Oldest saddle hunter

I would have guessed so too. Maybe we just hear more from us older guys becuase we have more of a mentor or father figure image of ourselves than the kids. Maybe you should add a button for those under 50 just for the heck of it.

    2025 fishing thread

The rules are a little hard to keep track of these days. I do most of my striper fish on Kennebec in Maine which has same slot but catch & release & single hook, no bait til July 1st although so many people there dont pay attention to those rules. Then last couple years I've been trying to...

    Climbing Sticks

XOP X2's weigh a lb less on a set of 4 when I switch them to amsteel; $45 cheaper and maybe slightly more overall footroom. Theyre extremely solid on the tree as well. Only minus is steps dont fold up but I dont notice it buckled onto my ambush platform walking in and dont have to deploy as I...

    New York hunter checking in

Welcome from the White Mountains! Saddle hunting is a blast- just give it an HONEST try. See so many that try a couple times and then "It's just not for me." I love it but I did take a season or so to get dialed in. Side note- are you near the Hudson, have you tried the Striper fishing there...

Why don't yall 2TC? - ultralight rope technique

I'm still working on 2TC but I'm finally getting the hang of it. I kept trying & failing but keeping at it because all those videos made it look so easy and it just made sense that it should be a perfect light climbing system. My trouble was I just couldn't manage to balance on the foot tether...

Hunting Bikers - was it worth it?

Maybe a silly question but did you have some small rubber patches come with those to wrap the handle bar? I have the same ones on my Rambo and neither bow or rifle ever move.

    Pre-dawn or Grey Light Entry

That voice in our head, wether it's instinct or just an epiphany, is better than all the human brain/logic we can throw at the deer woods. I've always been happy with any hunt that resulted from a sudden feeling/ urge to be set up in some place instead of the my defualt plan I made the night before.

    Release survey while hunting

I Guess most everyone deals with target panic and deals with it some way. I have just stayed with index finger releases becuase they seem more available- in case of inseason failure. I have found the easiest way over it when it flares is to just draw, aim, and intentionally let down. When I'm...
