    Aquarium progress

Years ago I had a longeared sunfish in my aquarium. After a couple of years I put a bullhead in there and somehow it killed the sunfish shortly afterwards. Also you can put vegetable/olive oil on the background and it will stick to the glass and not look as washed out.

Giving out your number via trail cam - is this a thing?

Some of our FWAs have sign-in/out requirements. I had a guy once leave his number at the check station while turkey hunting asking to text him. We had spoke earlier that day after going after the same bird. I had snuck up to about 10 yards away from the dude without seeing him so I just sat...

    What's going on at AeroHunter?

I didn't read all 13 pages of the thread but my money is on them getting out of the hunting saddle business and sticking to the arborist addles.

    Blackhorn 209

A few years ago when the shortage of primers just started I couldn't find any small packages so I was forced to buy a brick of them. I'm kinda glad I did now that I know they are still hard to find. I was also able to give my buddy a few packages.

    Right spot...Right time..

I've had one come in to the sound of the summit also. Another time there was snow on the ground during MZ season and I was about half way up and saw some deer walking about 250 yards away so I climbed back down and put the sneak on to take a doe.

    Hunting Indiana

I'll be out on the north end of the Forest myself on Saturday. Good luck!

    Kinda dumb question BUT

I normally just take a quick look around standing on the top step. If you're bowhunting you're only worried about less than 50 yards so I figure any deer close enough to see that has already heard me.

MR Treehouse 28 or Popup 28

It's been my experience that their shipping is not the fastest.

I'll be using the Pintler for the first time this year.

Did you scout enough this pre-season?

I was able to get out a couple of times. But I'm not too worried about it since I'll be in WY chasing mule deer for 10 days and I do a special reduction hunt at a park and will get plenty of opportunities to fill the freezer there.

Anyone hunting out west this year?

I'll be in western WY chasing mule deer the last week of October.

Worst thing you’ve forgot to take into the field?

Same here. Boots, release, quiver. I typically run through a chronological order of setting up before I leave the house.

Looking for a good day backpack

I'm going to use some bonus money and pick up a Pintler if they have a Memorial Day sale. I'm looking for something that can pull double duty out west if I need to. But the Scree was on the list of non-hunting packs I was looking at. I think I stayed away since it doesn't have the overload...

    Saddle hunting height

This year was the first time I used a double trunk tree. Similar situation as you but I was roughly 18 feet above the ground at my tree but where the buck was standing was 4 feet higher. I used the double trunk to get my first stick higher and was able to hide better. He was within 25 yards...

    Saddle hunting height

I had a doe once that came in straight on and ended up turning broadside then quartering away hard before I felt comfortable drawing on her. She was less than 5 yards away from the stand when I shot. The arrow went in between her shoulder and spine, hitting the interior part of both lungs and...

    Saddle hunting height

Correct. In my mind I guess I was thinking about being higher and having the deer within 15-20 yards.

    Saddle hunting height

I saw it mentioned once in the thread but remembering to bend at the waist is very important. I feel that's why some guys feel the need to "aim low" from a stand. It got me a couple of times on close shots until I went home and practiced from elevation. I spine shot two deer one season and...

    Smoked him!

Normally all I get out is a couple of excited "YES!!" whispers before I start worrying about falling out of the tree from shaking...LOL

    Setting up in River Bottoms

The bolded above can be a big help. It's been my experience that if you sit close to a creek/river bank the wind will pull down onto the water. That can help keep your wind out of the bedding area but beware of sitting upstream of deer crossings.
