    Saddle Tree Setup Discussion

Just noticed this thread. I'll throw my 2 cents in. Every set up and scenario is different but in this one that's given If it were me, I would set up at 3 O'clock if I could. Many guys try to set up placing the strong side shot at their 9-10 for righties or 2-3 for lefties or face the most...

    Chronographed, Real-World Bow Speed

Nut, I don't know. and truthfully I don't care. IMO People get too caught up in FPS. I shoot a heavy set up. If I had to guess 240 -250 fps. The only reason I would ever chrono my set up would be to figure out my momentum #. I own a chrono and I still don't even take the time to do it...

    Novix hybrid treestand

What are the dimensions of the platform? Looked on their website. Didn't see it mentioned.

    Novix hybrid treestand

Bingo! Someone who gets it. If there was a strap at platform level, it would be MUCH more secure and less susceptible to side pressure. IMO that's why the Andy Stand design was so secure. Now if we could only find a manufacturer to build one that is light weight w/ a rope or strap attachment.

    Serrated broadheads?

I don't own any serrated BH's. BUT! In my head, I keep coming back to when I cut bread with a non serrated knife, it's a PIA. My serrated knife that I never sharpen cuts bread easily.

Rit Dyemore Dye to Fix the Yellow Trucker Strap

This is an old thread. However, this thread came at a good time. I have some mule tape that I get for free. I was going to use it for pull up ropes in my pre sets. The "white" really stands out in the woods. I don't want to draw attention to my spots so I was thinking of dying it. Trappers use...

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

Totally understand. Sometimes it does make a difference. Not just on hunting either. When I'm SMB fishing, if I'm casting 15 yds away from the the rock piles I'll never get bit. It's like night and day.

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

Access is pretty good. I can slide right up to the north end of the island. Park the boat. Walk the shore line in the water, and slide in 60 yds to the tree. Not crossing any well traveled trail. There might be a deer or 2 that will meander through there but most of the action looks to be in...

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

Thank you. This is what I was looking for. This is one of those spots. Too far to one side and you'll getting picked. Too far to the other and your out of the game and probably just watch them. The key is how far is too far? I could slide back 20 yds and probably be just fine on getting winded...

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

Spots like this a gold mines if you can find them. I have spent tons of time on GE as well. You can learn a lot.

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

I use this tactic as well. I'll block a trail that goes downwind of the tree and force them upwind. Sometimes I do the opposite. I remove the obstacles and make the trail very obvious. They'll take the path of the least resistance most of the time.. In this case the natural terrain feature is...

    Yes . See above post.

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

It makes sense. My idea is to change the terrain. I've done it before with success. I failed to mention that on the S end of this ridge is a killer setup that I have prepared. Perfect for SW wind, Along the length of the ridge is down fall trees. The deer either jump them or go around.. I...

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

It's an island. Shaped like a half moon. 25-30 acres. It's Basically flat however there are slight ridges that run the whole length. These are basically ancient old high water marks. The deer are running the ridges. Bedding areas at both ends. The main ridge goes from tip to tip of the island...

Quartering Wind Direction- How close is too close?

Did you ever find a good spot where the prevailing wind direction just doesn't work? Well I found a tough spot w/ lot's of potential on a new property. I just have to crack the code on how to hunt it. It's between 2 bedding areas on a travel corridor. Lot's of scrapes, bunch of rubs including...

Anyone use John Eberharts scent control methods?

JE's scent control is extreme. As are his other methods. I don't see many other hunters getting in the tree 2 hours before daylight, hunt 30' high, and have 40+ tree locations pre prepped. If that's what it takes in his area to get the job done on mature bucks, then that's what it takes. It...

    Scrape soil, does it matter?

Here in MT I hunt river bottoms. Usually but not always the scrapes I find are on some sort of elevated terrain. In my area, there are slight ridges formed by the river from the old river channel. Probably thousands of years old. They run parallel to the river. Just few feet of difference...

Shifting from Ropeman 1 to hitch on 11mm tether.....suggestions that have been field tested

2 years ago Brocky turned me onto Sticht hitch w/ a ring. 8mm Resc tech and 6mm Sterling STP I think. Anyway, I haven't looked back. Works everytime and grabs great.
