How long does it take you to set up?

I Use 3-4 hawk helium’s with a one step aider. 24’ Is about my max. I can get to my hunting height (which varies) and set up in about 30 minutes from the time I get to the bottom of the tree. Most of that time is getting everything organized and safe before I climb. Climbing is pretty quick...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

Update: Several people have seen the deer and they got some trail camera photos that show him alive and quite well. Looks like the arrow hit no man’s land between the spine and the vitals. Shouldn’t affect him too badly in the future.

    My First Euro Mounts

Go for it, I used something similar for an old 5 point I killed. Don’t much like it. However, it lasts longer and you don’t have to worry about keeping it clean. Just rinse it off.

    My First Euro Mounts

I’m doing three euros tomorrow plus a bobcat skull. Like Nutterbuster said, 7mmremmag’s euro plaques are bomb. Just got three Texas shaped ones in this week and they look amazing.

Thanks everyone for the support and criticism. You need both from any situation to learn. If I end up finding the buck or getting pictures I’ll let you know.

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

Te texas gulf coast. 6:41 AM. I think shooting light was 6:20 or so. there was fat. It wiped the arrow pretty clean. The blood on the arrow was lighter red, not pink but not dark. it didn’t stink, when I saw that he wheeled away I was worried about guts, but it smelled like normal blood...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

so to answer a few of those questions. Maybe y’all have some insight. I hit the deer C4 (I think) the last time I saw the arrow it was dang close to hitting there then I lost it. Almost perfectly broadside, maybe 10 degrees towards me. Front leg was forward. He took a step then stopped, 10’...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

    1) never assume anything. When I watched the shot, heard the pop. I assumed he was dead within 100 as you say. I decided to wait an hour just to be sure but then the rain started. Now, as I’ve told my mentors and hunting buddies. I would take that shot 100 times. No regrets for shooting the...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

Thanks. A lot of folks seem to think I took a “low percentage shot”. I’d like to know how many people would pass a perfectly broadside, ~23 yard shot, with a buck that has stopped on his own and is looking around. You never know what that deer is capable of, I definitely didn’t think it would...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

Update: we never found the deer. Used a dog as well. Gonna hang up some trail cameras in the area to see if we can find him still alive. Mainly for closure on the whole situation. p.s. I posted this as successful due to the fact I shot a deer. After hunting for 2 months without even having an...

Somewhat successful/hit the deer. Never found.

Well, after 5 years of learning how to, and putting in a lot of effort to kill a mature buck. I finally got my opportunity. The past two days alone I’ve seen more big deer than in the past 5 years of hunting. He came in to 23 yards right at daylight. Settled the pin and aimed for the top of the...

    Spring archery season.

I shoot it instinctive. You can put a sight if you want, but it’s hard to have time to aim. I just practiced with a pool noodle in the yard til I got the hang of it. Then tie the pool noodle to a brick and toss it in a pond to learn refraction. My general rule. 1:2. For every 1” below the...

    Spring archery season.

It takes abuse, you’ll probably never want to deer hunt with it after the fact. But I preferred a compound due to holding back on fish waiting for the right shot. It’s all in your preference. I shot about 30-40 pounds with a 30” draw length and killed gar as big as 7’2” and plenty of big buffalo...

    Spring archery season.

It depends on what you’re fishing for. I fished for gator gar so I preferred the bottle so that it could be a loose line if need be. Drum, small far, etc... you’d probably be okay with a stabilizer mount

    Spring archery season.

I’ve bowfished my whole life. Go to the local pawn shops and find you a cheap ol used bow. I bought a Bear Whitetail 2 about 10 years ago for $40. Slap you on a bow fishing reel and rest and you’re ready to go. I’ve shot plenty of fish with that setup.

    The No-Shame Thread

When I was a little kid (13ish) I was walking back one evening after bow hunting the land behind my house. As I’m walking, I hear footsteps that match my own the entire time (400 yards). Every time I stop, it stops. I walk and it walks. Get to the edge of a pasture and it’s a big coyote that was...
