    Lets talk hammocks

I’ve been hunting with a henesee hammock with a bug screen for about 5 years or so mainly in elk country . Maybe longer. I use an overquilt and underquilt. Love it. Better than carrying a tent and all, and I can sleep on mountain steeps without a problem. I love it. I mean it’s not a bed, but...

    Bizarre doe attack

My wife and I watched a doe kill another doe in my backyard 2 days ago over who knows what. Her fawn surely won’t make it.

    Had My First Climb Today

I’ve been climbing trees for 34 years, and have no interest in one stick climbing. Scares me thinking about it. Nice job

    New Gear for 2023, Go!

2023 I run saddle and stands .5 for short sits or long hikes and short sits .5 and saddle combo for all day affairs 1.0 for bump and dump Saddle and pursuit platform for long hikes and sits I’ll dial it all in this fall. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up saddle and/or .5/pursuit platform most days...

Scentlok or Sitka or First Lite?

Quality hunting clothing doesn’t have to cost a lot, but often does unless you buy used. Filson, FL, Sitka, KOM, etc. good deals used or on auction sites, insane prices new. I’m pretty surprised how FL is generally reasonable

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

My hunting partner uses cell cams. We were on Vaca hunting this past season and based on his photos I could tell you exactly when to get after a spot/area because you can totally tell when the time has come to catch specific giant bucks in daylight. I mean the intel is just insane. You could...

Worst thing you’ve forgot to take into the field?

Walking down a CO mountain, buddy realized he left his bow where we had shed layers of clothing…. Gone.. and it was a borrowed bow! LOL But by chance, I’d left the gps on and backtracked breadcrumbs to find it. He was already looking up flight prices home when I returned with it, had it been...

    New Gear for 2023, Go!

Hahahahha. I kind of don’t understand the whole XOP thing in general. LWCG/LW/XOP… that stick arrangement is certainly not compact in the video. also, I’ve used Amsteel on sticks, try using webbing and you’ll probably not go back. Same hitch. I’ve found that any upward pressure or...

That’s a pretty well said argument

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

In MI baiting is illegal but they still sell it at every gas station and I bird hunt too, and find bait all over ugh Well, bear is a little different. Highly nocturnal, thick cover in Maine and Michigan. You’d never see them while hunting without bait or dogs. Out west I see em while hunting.

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

well I began in 1990. So…nope I don’t think there were even cell phones. So where do we draw the line? I find it odd that we can surveil, in real, time an acreage, and that’s just considered ok and normal? And now thermal scopes sound amazing honestly…. When is it just too easy and too...

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

No axe to grind. I’m not some sort of hater. I care about hunting and the longevity of it, the tradition of it. I do think you could do ALL of those things you laid out to hunt and ditch the cameras, or could you? I’m really not attacking you or anyone. The truth is without them the game...

video break testing prusik cords, arborist saddle, and cobra buckle

Impressive how strong it all is. Gives confidence in rigging for sure.

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

“Because it’s legal” There just comes a point where surveillance and assassinations are more appropriate terms than hunting. Cams are like xbows, everyone has an excuse to use em. It’s not like I care that much, and not like my opinion matters, but it’s not woodsmanship, it’s all to make things...

    Thinking of dumping all cameras.

Most of the deer podcasts that I refuse to listen to should all be titled “how to use cams that surveil the woods to find and kill big bucks you’d have never known existed”. It’s total BS and cheating IMO Never used em. Never will. It’s led to the shut down of countless permissions on...

    Lessons Learned 2022

The cable aiders if they’re not too long seem excellent. I used them all season a LOT. The WEBBING aiders I’d throw away. Total junk and a death trap

    Deep hook?

Shooting finger tips doesn’t help to keep the hand relaxed and in alignment with the string. Harder to do, and usually causes hand misalignment and tension. Much like many techniques in Trad, do what you find to work the best. Generally speaking there’s a basic path to “proper form”, form that...

    Lessons Learned 2022

I’ve been bow hunting deer, Trad, since 1990, and if I were going to start hunting today, the #1 advice I’d give someone, because I’ve experienced most of the same things independently, would be to LISTEN VERY CLOSELY AND MULTIPLE TIMES TO EVERY PODCAST ANDRE DAQUISTO is on. And not just the...
