    Hollow brand alpaca socks?

I've been wearing Altera brand alpaca socks for years and I really like them. But these Hollow brand seem to be the next level. So nice. I hope the durability is good.

Questions about saddles and longer traditional bows

Question for trad shooters who shoot strictly from a ring of steps... Do you feel crowded against the tree creating limited space for bow clearance? I'm a platform guy and I usually have one step on each side of the tree, but I have practiced on a ROS and my shooting wasn't very good. Seems to...

Questions about saddles and longer traditional bows

I like collar bone height too. But I think which is the best height ( for comfort) depends on the saddle. Some saddles are more comfortable with a lower tether than other saddles. Recons seem to handle low tethers pretty well. Low tether will give you better elbow clearance but it usually means...

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

I just happened to watch that video last night. That guy goes to great lengths to test the breaking point of all sorts og climbing gear. Most of the point of failure are well beyond what we exert as stand hunters but it's imperative that we understand the factors and then make our own risk...

    Novix hybrid treestand

I quoted your post because it had a decent photo attached. Thanks for posting it. I wasn't suggesting that you were advocating the stand. Those "T" hooks on the Ranger platform are in a better location than the hooks on the .5 for the purpose I'm talking about. But both stands have them located...

    Novix hybrid treestand

I recently bought a .5 and I notice something about the designs of all tree stands that have a bottom button for a 2nd strap. The stand would be much more stable if the bottom strap connected to the back of the platform itself and not to the post. The post is basically a pivot point and doesn't...

Insect Shield; factory treat your clothes

Do whatever makes you happy. I spray my clothes too. But I also like to have some factory treated clothing that's always ready to go. Ticks are active in temps into the 30s. It's not always convenient or have the right conditions to spray when it's 35 degrees out. I once helped a buddy trail his...

Insect Shield; factory treat your clothes

It's definitely tick season (shed hunting, morels, turkeys, habitat chores) and thought I'd share my observations of sending my clothing to the Insect Shield company for the "lifetime" permethrin treatment. Although I do treat my own clothes with permethrin concentrate, it's not always...

    Mushroom ID please

The morels were the black ones and they were pretty small. A lot of them were borderline as to whether I wanted to pick them. There were a couple dozen more that were too small or just popping. It's literally 5 feet from my deck so I'll be keeping a close eye for more. I usually don't get...

    Mushroom ID please

I found almost 50 morels just in my yard today. This is pretty early for these parts. So I went on a walk to look in my hot spots. I saw these shooms. What are they? Edible?

    Licking branch tree fell over

Yes, I did. I hung it right next to a grape vine licking branch that I have over a well used mock scrape. I wanted to see if deer preferred one or the other. Final impressions were deer very slightly seemed to like the vine better but the rope was still well used. I thought I had pics posted...

    Licking branch tree fell over

Might be worth it to cut off the original branch and wire tie it to the other tree so it hangs at the correct height.

For trad, how high is too high for good shooting angle?

If you feel comfortable with 20 yard practice range, your realistic, ethical hunting range will most likely be less than that. I consider 18 feet to be on the high side for me. I like it when front cover and back cover allow me to be 12-14 feet.I'm not afraid of heights at all but I much prefer...

Are some rubber boots better with ground scent?

The rubber itself of some boots have a strong chemical odor. I realized this several years ago while in a Cabelas store. I was looking over a pair of boots that I was considering and I caught a whiff of something odd. I sniffed the boot soles and they indeed had a strong odor. At that point, I...

    LWCG .5 noise

Did you have an ankle replacement? That's what the orthopedic doc recommends for me. I don't have the time to be laid up for months during recovery. It's taken my ankle almost 4 months, a few cortisone injections, prednisone, chiropractic, ice, brace, and tape wrap to get somewhat back to normal.

    LWCG .5 noise

Yeah, this is the 1st machined platform that I've owned and I realize that this is an inherent issue. All my steel stands are quieter and cast aluminum are quiter too. I guess it's not a deal breaker but I wondered if there was a reasonable fix. Haha, I was watching some Jim Hole vids and he's...

    LWCG .5 noise

I'm not banging anything on it. I'm talking about the platform and the seat frame having a resonance when anything rubs across it. Even the soft foam seat will create a sort of a vibration through the entire stand. If I tap ever so lightly on the platform the sound travels throughout the...

    LWCG .5 noise

Because of a major issue with my ankle, it looks like I will need to go hybrid. I've got to be able to sit in a seat more than hang in a saddle. So I bit the bullet and bought a LWCG .5 Buy once, cry once right? But I might still be crying because these things are noisy. It has a "ring" or...

Private pre sets option ideas. Looking for ideas or suggestions.

For presets when their weight is not an issue, those Andy stands are the bomb. They'd be the greatest ever if they were light enough to also double as a mobile stand. Mine are heavier than what most guys would want to transport on the day of the hunt or into remote areas. It still puzzles me as...
