    sitka gear

Is it worth the $ It depends on how you hunt imo. You can stay just as warm in other outerwear but you will sacrifice weight and bulk. (I used to look like a big marshmallow.) So, if your not packing in a long ways and dont mind bulk...there might be more inexpensive options that get the job...

    Treestand to Saddle form issues

I just thought I would encourage everyone new to saddle hunting who has made the switch from treestands to take time a practice shooting. My experience is that it definitely takes some getting used to. I thought I would share my experience. I've got my bow tuned very well and shooting out to...

    Samson Hot

My opinion is that movement will get you picked off far more than any colors that you have. I do avoid the blue spectrum because deer can see that. Also, UV which is likely present in most camo and ropes. I wouldn't worry about the orange. Pick your movements carefully with a good backdrop of...

    Whoopie Sling Too Short

Well....I cut it off and spliced new one measuring exactly 18.5 inches for the bury. After milking I measured the FINISHED bury and it was 14.5". I was quite frustrated until I learned through some research that it will lose a good amount of length and that it is only measured BEFORE splicing...

    Whoopie Sling Too Short

Hey guys, Sooooo... I was made a whoopie sling for an adjustable bridge out of 1/4" amsteel blue. I know the proper length of bury recommended by amsteel is 3 1/2 fid lengths or just over 18 inches. I made one that was 13 inches. Is there any testing out there that allows me to estimate how...

    Milkweed pods...

The common milkweed in my area matures on year 3. That's when it flowers and produces pods. Not sure on the variety you planted.

    Daisy Chain Tether??

Amsteel is typically not preferred for tether by most because its integrity is compromised by rubbing up against bark and excessive fraying. I think some guys use webbing though. I havent seen a daisey chain webbing used for tether....so other guys can weigh in on whether that is a safety issue.

What is your preferred step aider for Helium or other sticks and why?

I love a CAYG one step aider. Doubtful you could get 25ft with 3 sticks though.

Type of rope for tether, belt, bridge

Amsteel is a poor choice for tether and LB, mainly because it doesnt work with ropeman or prusik, and degrades easily against bark and such. Many people use 11mm Predator which you can order from Wespur with a spliced eye. It also works well with Ropeman 1. I use Predator for tether and 9mm...

Best way to carry gear (climbing sticks and platform)

I have the Exo frame pack that ways 2 lbs and 10 oz I believe. I have my platform in the beavertail (you can just see it in pic) and strap sticks with buckles. I have extra buckles to strap clothes for late season. This whole setup is under 12 lbs. I pack in deep just like you. I love it!

    filming recommendations

I'm dont film, but I have read that the go pro is not what you want for filming deer and wildlife. It is supposed to be real good at doing interviews in the tree and a second angle for watching the shot and such. If I was in your shoes, and you only want one camera....go pro would not be my...

How do you hang your gear??

Anyone use their lineman's belt rather than paracord? I just thought that since your bringing that along and don't need it when your tied to your Tether, it would save from carrying an extra item. There's got to be a slick way somehow.

Am I a genius, or just stupid...

I missed the fact that this was a sit drag backed up with a harness...so I feel way better about it. Carry on.

Am I a genius, or just stupid...

I'm not at all an expert in safety, so take this fwiw. But that freaks me out unless you were ALWAYS backed up with minimal slack in your backup. It reminds me of tying a d-loop on a bowstring. Safe almost always, but they can come undone.
