    Athens Archery Closing Down

I used to buy parts there too but it got to a point where it seemed like every time I went to look for something the prices were just getting silly. To be fair to them though, the cheap guns I grew up with were largely made in the 50’s-70’s. There aren’t nearly as many of them around these days...

    Quitting coffee

Not everyday but I drink tea quite a bit. Black/Chai tea I drink English style with milk added. For non-caffinated tea I drink the various fruit teas, raspberry, blackberry, citrus, etc. The times I've stopped caffiene all togetther I find my energy level is more steady through the day...

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

Wow! I sure opened up a can of worms with my cycles to failure comment. So much much for trying to briefly summarizie the concept in a couple sentences :D

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

It would take so long when used within design parameters. You can think of it as the number of load cycles till failure. As the load reduces, the number of load cycles it takes to break it increases exponentially. By the time you get down to the safe working load (WLL) it takes millions of cycles.

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

I hear ya, I'm a retired Arborist myself. The good thing is that safety and using quality gear climbing is mainstream now, that wasn't always the case in the SH community to put it mildly. My personal opinion is that non-climbers have never seen or experienced a climbing accident happen before...

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

Agreed. Professional tree climbers put infinitely more wear and tear on carabiners compared to hunters. I don't think I've ever seen a picture on here of climbing gear that even looks broken in, let alone in danger of fatigue failure :D

Not meaning to open a can of worms - cross loading carabiners

Fortunately in this case there’s lots of different safe ways to skin the cat. In the pre safety days of Saddlehunter people “100% trusted” some pretty sketchy stuff :D

    Athens Archery Closing Down

The days of cheap parts from Numrich are long gone. Literally better off buying a second rifle for parts.

    Not a Gun Guy…

None of the ridiculous stuff was moving that I saw. Did see a few older bench rest rifles for sale at decent prices. Just don’t need a project at the moment.

    Not a Gun Guy…

I just left the Tulsa gun show, so much of the pricing is just laughable

Oklahoma bill looks to DOUBLE non-resident cost

I hate to say this but I hope it backfires on them. Not out of spite because I don't have any intention of hunting there, but to keep other states from following the same course of action. Politicians making wildlife policy is a bad idea. Their overarching concern is staying in office.

    Question

Like the others, I never bought sketchy gear when I worked as a climber and don’t plan to start now. The other part of it for me is that this is a small industry, the good people that have put in the time and effort to develop this segment of the hunting industry and took the risk to start a...

    Gear you liked/disliked 2023

They were mentioned earlier but I was really happy with the pair of Lite boots I bought pre-season. I don't really care about the weight, it was the comfort over a much wider range of temps compared to rubber boots that really sold me on them. On the ground putting in the miles I still prefer my...

    Ar build

Not just the 300 blk but modestly powered rounds in general are much more effective than they're given credit for ASSUMING proper bullet selection. In my opinion, hunters in the past had to rely more on power to make up for lagging bullet design. As bullet design has progressed there isn't as...

    Interesting sight

This is the podcast I listened to recently but it’s a very brief mention of unbred does around the 50 min mark cycling a second and third time. Must’ve been a different one from awhile back where there was more discussion about it but no idea at this point which one it was...

    Interesting sight

I was listening to a podcast not too long ago with Dr Grant Woods talking about late cycling does. It’s a very small number but does happen.
