I have never left the ground hunting other than a large box blind. As a kid I seen one of my fathers friends get stuck in a tree when his climbing stand fell away and he was up there for almost 20 hours waiting for help so I have been a bit shy. Climbers are bulky and loud so I generally don’t care for them. Came across saddle hunting and I’m very intrigued. I do a lot of spot and stalk but would like to add a saddle to the mix.
I haven’t been blessed with any land or a lease of my own so I have been limited to WMA’s or whatever I am invited to by my friends who have pity on me. Because of this I would need to carry everything in and out every trip.
I’m 6’6” and 325lbs currently (losing weight) and looking for a comfortable saddle. (Yes I know this will be different for everyone)
I was looking at AeroHunter kits but not sure what else I would need/want?

Also looking for advice on sticks & platform that aren’t a pain to setup and tare down.

Thanks for any help and having patience with me.

Man you’re asking to go down several huge rabbit holes there lol. Gotta start somewhere though.

Are there other things you’re looking for or are important to you in your setup? Might help narrow things down for you a bit.

Examples:
- light weight
- small/ packability
- how much foot room do you care about?
- how much “fiddle factor” are you willing to put up with or imagine you would be ok with, such as dealing with ropes, buckles, straps, moving parts on the gear, etc.

Yea I figured it was a few loaded questions with a lot of opinions coming my way.
I don’t care too much about light weight.
I would need to be able to pack all of it in one spot and stalk trip with no returns to truck until after hunt is over.
I think I would like a small platform. Don’t think my size 14 boot would do well on the top of a stick for a long time.
I don’t mind fiddling at home but wouldn’t wantto take a whole lot of time in the field tinkering and making noise.

I am bow hunting 90% of the time so that probably needs to be taken into consideration.

Hope that helps.
thank you

6’2” 315 when I started saddle hunting size 15 boot.. have bought and sold a lot what I landed on

Flex size 2 saddle
Bolts to climb if not legal Lwcg mini sticks
Predator platform ( I’ve bought all the bigger platforms they r nice but predator is more well rounded in my option for size, weight, needed room)
Oplux ropes with Beal jammys no mechanical devices...

Pack - I don’t think they make the perfect one.. still searching LOL currently running a timberhawk from Walmart has been my favorite so far for what I carry.

Get a system get comfortable and remember u don’t have to be 30 foot to kill deer I’ve shot plenty a couple sticks high. Saddle allows you to get in smaller trees and use more cover.

Good luck

6’2” checking in, was 250. Size 13 boot. I use a ridge runner. Can get about 2/3 of my boot on there which is more than enough for me. Can get around both sides of tree. I use 3 helium’s with a 2 step aider on two of them and I can get to 20’ eaaasy. Since you’re Andre the Giant 3 hawks would do fine, but I’m not sure about your weight. You might want to either explore eastern woods outdoors to custom build some or maybe beast sticks. Anything with a solid cleat vs fold up like muddy, LW, helium’s is etc. Also look into wild edge steps

6'2'' 250 here, I've been really happy with my Cruzr XC and either Beast Sticks or WE steps and a ring of squirrel steps instead of a platform. I found that having two steps together at 3 and 9 o'clock and a single at 6 is more comfortable and easier to pivot around the tree than my predator platform. I just like the simplicity and size/weight of the ring of steps. Being able to straddle the tree and let the boys breath is a must on warm afternoon hunts.
