1 sticking setups

I would cut that full size Hawk down and make it a fun size Hawk. Add a two step aider and you have something that will let you climb quickly and efficiently, but still pack down very small:

Once you get to your desired height, set your predator platform and hunt.

Easiest way to modify a full size Hawk into a fun size Hawk, one cut and two holes:

After a lot of experimentation and tinkering. This is what I have decided is the best of the best one sticking stick.

Catalyst ION

Karver kj3 cleat…. Strong, all metal, silent, expensive but worth every cent.

Made my own aider. 3 step, inserted 1/4” delrin into reinforced fuel tubing then jammed into 1” tubular webbing so they are a firm step with no sag and holds its shape. They are 14” spacing. 6-1/2” wide. Makes for the most effortless climb.

Once to height I have 2 squirrel steps on an OCB set a bit higher than the platform for comfort.

Hawk mini cut to 15”, hsp platform, cam cleat. 1/8 amsteel rope mod, removable 3 step etrier. Not in the photos is a continuous loop of amsteel in the bottom of the stick that I hook the aider on.

What do you NEED? A stick, a tether, and a lineman rope. Everything else is a luxury. You can one-stick down the same way you one-stick up. I did it for two years before I started rappelling. Nobody likes to do it though because rappelling requires less physical effort and it's fun.

Everyone seems to have over-complicated this method in the last two years. You don't NEED fancy sticks, and cam cleats, and quick links, and overpriced out-of-stock ascenders... But they can make things easier.

I always go back to this video, posted 9 years ago. So simple, so quick, so quiet. Although I would have liked to see him use his lineman rope when advancing his tether.

any chance you would know of a video climbing down without a rappel rope?

search For 'the Cain method'.

He's good at one-sticking down. I hate it!
I forgot my rappel rope in a tree once last year and didn't realize till the next hunt that I didn't have my rope...
I one-sticked down 2 moves before I said "F●€< this!" I just dropped my stick, hugged the tree and slid the rest of the wayy down! ;)

Probably death Vs. One stick down

I choose death!….lol

Yeah I can see how that would be a pain, but until I can get everything in to rappel looks like I'm stuck one sticking down.

If you got a rope and a carabiner you got everything you need to rappel

I one stick down and it's not that bad. I would rather one stick down then deal with all the extra stuff for rappelling! But to each their own!

Still not please with my climbing method and considering EVERYTHING.

What’s everyone running for their one sticking setup?

Add pictures if you got em!

My set up. I don’t recommend doing this DIY setup but it works for me. I like the real estate of a bigger platform that cams over. I like one sticking. I combined the two and call it a Cam Sticking.

I cut a LW stick to 18” then mounted a EDP on to the top. I took the LW step off and added a 1/2 inch spacer and added the second step to the stick. I then replaced the lower LW standoff with a junkie Helium stand off with a 3/4 “ spacer to extend it because I couldn’t find a deeper standoff. The reason you need more length in the lower standoff is because when you cam over the platform it moves the lower standoff away from the tree. ( I know this is Norwegion engineering)
Because the platform can fold flat against the tree I can slide it under neath my rappel rope as I move up. Once at height I lock the platform in place with a pin. sounds crazy but with three moves I’m 15+ ft. I will keep trying to improve this setup as I go. Like I said this works for me.
DIY at your own risk. I love my Cam Stick and it only weighs 5lbs.44CE5B28-8DC5-4AFF-A6E1-15913F0641C9.jpeg8E6C46C7-0890-414D-BBF8-F9C75C84B64D.jpeg8C95714D-7EAD-4FBA-BB9E-D4B6F2E4A797.jpeg

I actually just got my parts in from EWO to make a climbing mission, similar to what you have there.
