Did anyone try anything after Ranch Fairy talked about having a 15,25,35 pin set up?
As much as I can’t stand to listen to the guy, the message seemed to hit home. I have hit high on deer before with my 20 pin when they 12 yards or less. Thinking this will help me be lower 1/3 at 20 as well.
Looking for experiences and thoughts?

You can set a pin at 15 or whatever,to me the main thing is to shoot at all distances and know where how high or low your arrow hits. I use one pin set at 26 and shoot that from 5 to 31 yds. I know it hit 3" high at 5 and 3" low at 31. 20 yds is 2" high.
As long as you can wrap your mind around that you're good.
I love the open sight picture with the one pin setup.

I switched this year to a multi pin set at 15,25,35... last year I hit two deer high with a single pin slider set at 25. I’m not blaming the sight, it just happened

Yeah that’s where I’m at as well with my single pin. Love it for shooting in the yard but super nervous about the large gaps since I’m shooting “adult” arrows this year. Might try the EZV if I can get one used.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the pin gap. My bow was shooting 650 grain arrows at 230 FPS and it was easy to shoot out to 100 yards plus. The pin gap isn’t as much as you think

Different folks, different strokes.. Whatever works for you. It is all.about having confidence in your whole setup.

I bumped arrow weight up to 640grs this year and set my pins at 15, 25, 35 and really like it. With the heavier arrow there is a noticeably larger gap between the 25 and 35 yard pins compared to the 15 and 25 yard pins which is different from the five equally spaced pins when I was shooting 425gr arrows.

I've also had my fair share of high hits on steep angle in close shots in the past but ever since I started practicing those shots from the saddle I seem to have corrected my aiming mistake. Will this change in pin setting really make a difference to where the arrow impacts I don't believe so because I aim according to my range finder so it's up to me to hold on the spot I want the arrow to hit regardless of what my pins are "zeroed" for.

I have been using the 15, 25, 35, 45 sets for many years. 95% of my shots were/are under 20 so that feeling of trying to compensate a couple of inches on the closer shots was madening, and cost me a few deer with bad hits. When I switched to the 15 first pin, 95% of my shots were top pin dead on, dead deer. I practice 90% at the 35 and 45 yard settings so that the closer shots seem like chip shots when I move up.

What sights are you guys using? I'm looking for one with easy adjustment. I have a trophy ridge sight and making micro adjustment on individual pins is a pain....

I use the Trophy Ridge Peak (verticle pins) on my newer bow and have used the older Trophy Ridge verticle pin site on my older bows for years.

I think i had a similar trophy ridge sight. The individul pins wobble up and down when you loosen the screw and it is complete guesswork where they end up once the screw is tight again. Check the classifieds here and on AT and you can find good sights for $100.

OP - Where on this deer grid did you aim, and where did you impact the deer you said you hit high?

And were you on ground or in tree? If in tree, how high?

How fast do you think your bow is shooting?

I do basically the same thing with my one pin and only adjust on farther shots normally.

I just shot a doe in square 8d/9d

She ran a little now is just laying in the field at 150yds

Did I just barely miss lungs?

Shot was a touch back. I could see exit hole. Clean pass through

What was the angle? Broadside, quartering to or away, how far and how high up?

I hit mine from 22yds quartering away at 10d and exit hole was 7e, she bucked at impact and ran maybe 30yds and stood for a minute. I saw blood dripping from entrance hole. She walked off out of sight so I gave her an hour. Followed easy blood trail to her another 60yds.

Don’t move and don’t take your eyes off of her if you can still see her. It may be 6 hours or more but she’ll die if she bedded down

So she bedded for 20 minutes. Then she got up and started walking off the field. Every 10 yards she just stopped. She looked real rough. But she made it off the field. I could easily see the exit hole. It was a 20 yard quarter away shot. Doesn't get any easier then that.

I saw where she went off the field so I grabbed my arrow (smelt like a liver hit) and waited. Did some other chores then went back to start looking around 1. It had been 5 hours after the shot. Followed scarce blood for idk how long. The last 40 yards were just specs dripping off her fur I'm guessing. Crawled on hands and knees but could follow blood anymore. It turned into a body search so I followed the deer trail to this beaver pond on the end of the swamp. Never did find her.....

Sorry to derail this thread. Was looking for that shot placement grid.
