2017 Deer Contest Discussion

Eh its the nature of things. I passed close to 60 deer, shot a buck and a doe, lost two to yotes. Hit a branch on a 3 year now chase on a buck of a lifetime. Sleep in one day and he is in front of my cam for 45 minutes milling around 7 yards from my setup!! Then go to work and have to hear about this guy and his buddy shooting 7 deer from the ground. Like I said its the nature of things and think that as time goes on i will learn and develop more of my game to where i will be satisfied.

Had a death in the family on Monday and needed to clear my head, so the wife let me do an evening sit on the family farm. I haven’t hunted or pulled cards in probably 5 weeks. Too bad I didn’t come out yesterday instead. I pulled a card and the buck I call freak not only made it through gun season, but was at the feeder at 11:03 am YESTERDAY.
So nice to see he made it. You can’t tell from this pic, but he is impressive. The buck to the left is a 9 that is older, but if they come in together the freak is dead. His rack is just ridiculously unique.

You did better than I did and G2.
G2, Dave T and Ontario on a team. Things can only get better or worse we could all get skunked.
I got one doe and messed up on several buck opportunities.
It is actually encouraging to newer hunters when guys like Dave T, John E, Dan I and G2 all don't get their deer. I have not been skunked in a few years but I know it is a possibility. I appreciate humility and honesty because it encourages us to keep at it when we lesser hunters fail.I guess that is why we call it hunting and not killing deer.
The deer like to win more than we do.

Well, I went into the year with crazy high hopes.
I ended up hunting half as much as I thought I would be able to, and then wasted most of what I did Hunt by focusing on one deer that I didn’t have access to enough of his range to really effectively hunt him.
3 years in a row I could have had a decent deer if it wasn’t for antler restrictions, so I will focus more on Oklahoma next year. No antler restrictions there.
I am super pumped for all the prep work and planning over the next several months.
Is it October yet.....?

Remember everyone that you got out and participated in this awesome and fun contest. I am thrilled to see so many guys out there hunting and enjoying gods creations. Wether you win the contest or don’t win we all win because we all in my opinion have learned something new and had a chance to experience and see what so many do not. This was a lot of fun. I did not get to hunt as much as I wanted but still got out there and enjoyed every minute. If we scored this contest like golf (the lower the points the better) team 9 is the winner! Go Team!
Too bad the contest doesn't go through Feb because I feel I will get something later. This Friday is my last day to score something for the contest and we have 50° and 20 mph winds with 30 mph gusts. Not sure I want to be in a tree and I rarely see anything during high winds where I hunt.

FYI the contest end date is a compromise between the guys who's seasons end early and the guys who run late. I can also hunt until mid February, but there are guys who had their seasons end by January 1st too.
I know. I wasn't complaining. Just sucks that my last weekend in the contest we are having 30 mph gusts.
We are getting our butts kicked so badly I could kill a world record buck and it wouldn't matter.
That big one I never found is still just burning me up.

Geez NY season starts Oct 1 and ends Dec 19th. Crazy how long some of you guys get to hunt! I am sure I would be divorced if hunting season was much longer LOL .....
I know. I just wanted to let you know the reasoning.
To my fellow teammates on Team 8 way to go!! We got it done this year despite the pressure from all the other great teams on the board. Congratulations is due to everyone who participated on this awesome fun event. I feel every year this contest pushes me to be a better hunter. Win or lose it doesn’t matter but thanks my fellow saddle hunters for a great season and best of luck to all next year!!!
