Update: 8/30 for new users
Rules:
You must have a minimum of 100 posts AND you must have been a member of this site prior to May 1st, 2019 to enter in the main entry contest thread. For those who do not meet this criteria, please enter in the new user contest thread. The teams will participate in the main contest but only be made up of new users (https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/new-user-contest-entry.17608/).
1. The kill must be out of a saddle style stand, any legal weapon is allowed.
2. Whitetail, blacktail, mule and sika deer are permitted.
3. Does are worth 5 points, bucks are worth 5 points + 1 point for each antler point 1 inch or longer. A photo of any questionable points is to be provided.
4. Only 2 deer are allowed per person, one of which may count as a buck. You may submit a second buck in place of a doe for 5 points. So you can enter 1 buck and 1 antlerless deer, 2 antlerless deer, or 2 bucks, but the second buck will only count for 5 points. New addition: **You may upgrade your buck as many times as desired**
5. A photo of the hunter and saddle (either laying on the ground or on the hunter) with the full body of the deer is required to be posted in the official deer contest thread for submission. If you have 1000 posts or more you do not need to include the saddle in your photo, I will take your word on the honor system.
6. The contest will end on February 15th, 2020. Any bucks killed prior to the official start of the contest will be accepted if they meet the above criteria.
7. The team with the most points wins.

Mr. redsquirrel sir, I wondered about the possibility of having a newb team? I think someone mentioned it before. So basically a team of wet behind the ears saddle hunters that are itching to try their hand at it. (Such as myself) I figure you have to have a certain number per group so it may not be possible. I was thinking kind of like the trad team. (We know we'll get whooped but enjoy the challenge and camaraderie of seeing how close we can get)
I'm not insensitive to the time and complications of putting this together, so by all means I wouldn't be put out if this is a big thumbs down. Just figured it would be worth throwing the idea out there. If not this year, next?

The idea being, if you haven't been on here as long or don't have enough postings. I do understand the reasoning.

Hannah, It might not be the same as a true "Contest" but I doubt @redsquirrel would object to you starting a "newbie" thread in the Deer Hunting section where you can share experiences and successes in a common thread. Just a thought . . .

Hanah, I think that is a great idea! I just made the updates :)

Heck yeah. I’m withholding my name from the contest this year due to lack of hunting time availability. I’ll watch in anticipation, though!!

What day is the last day to say I’m in?

My bad! Completely missed that section. Will there be a discussion thread for the contest as well?

No problem, just posted it there in case anyone else has the same question. Yes, that will go up after the teams have been picked.

I posted about the doe I shot today in the hunting forum. The pictures show me up a tree but I don't think I have any clear photos of my saddle. I will take some tomorrow. The deer is hanging in my backyard. Where should they be submitted and does the deer have to be wearing the saddle? :grinning:

Just to clarify. I think the rules are that the deer the hunter and the saddle must all be in submission photo/photos. Is this correct? If it's just the deer and the saddle I'm fine with that, just wondering.

Well dang, I totally missed this so I guess I’ll wait till next year. How many people can you put on a team?

I thought the teams were randomly picked according to the number of people that said they were "in".
