We are in the 5th generation of that farm which is pretty cool and holds a special place in our hearts! Sounds like your farm is in the same boat for your family

good grief its hot here in the south - first day of fall yesterday was 90 in Charlotte. My first hunt will be a youth hunt this weekend in VA but its going to be 90's both days. Plus there has been no rain there in 2 months. Will be sitting over the creeks in the shade for sure. Still trying to figure out when I get my first sit in - lots of upcoming travel for work. I told my wife this year I'd hunt weekdays so the weekends would be time with her and our 2 year old. Now of course I have a lot of work travel popping up. But I'll be taking vaca days in Nov to hunt for sure

Just got back from long weekend in Ohio. Saturday opener, I got ran out of the tree by thunderstorms in the morning and then again in the evening...Nothing like being up a tree, standing on a metal platform with lightening all around! I just took my tether, left the rest and beat feet to the truck :tearsofjoy:. I took Sunday morning off and got some work done fixing up our barn. Sunday evening i slipped into one of my brassica/clover plots w/ cooler conditions than the last several days and set up on a Northeast wind. Also in the plot is a crab apple tree that is just loaded. I was set up less than 30 minutes when i heard something crunching those apples and looked down to see a nice size doe chomping away at 25 yards. I got pretty excited because i had only brought my recurve on this trip with the goal of harvesting a doe and i thought i was going to get my first chance! However, she ultimately never presented a good shot and feed out into the brassica's away from me. A short time later, I heard a deer coming from over left shoulder on a well used trail coming out right under the stand at 7 yards. In this situation i couldnt risk the movement to look over my shoulder but knew this deer was going to pop out on the trail right below me, so i just readied the recurve for that 7 yarder when it did. Unfortunately, it was a button buck and I eased the tension down off the string! He feed over towards the larger doe and they disappeared out of the far corner of the plot. A short time later they feed back out with another Doe and two more does stepped into the plot from the bottom corner and made their way up into the brassicas to feed. They were all around 50-60 yards at this point. Then about a half an hour before dark a pretty decent young 8 pt stepped out with the does to feed. He feed a little and then proceeded to bump around the does checking them out. Most of them moved in my direction and one big doe stopped right in front of me at 15 yards but facing straight at me and the buck is now walking in her direction straight at me. My intention the whole time was to try to shoot this doe and I was not even considering shooting the buck ( maybe 100-120 incher) and all i need was for her to turn. Well, just as she started to turn and i was getting some tension in the string that darn buck came up and bumped her away! He then stopped and stood at about 15 yards, slightly quartered away forever just watching the does! It got dark as the deer were still in the plot and as preplanned my hunting partner drove the truck in and ran them out so i could get out of the tree clean. So long story short, No shots fired, It was a great hunt, with plenty of action and like always if i intend on shooting a doe the only shots I get are on bucks! I was once again pleased to see my year round efforts in planting and land management paying off in the stand and making for fun sits like this one! The big guys will come out of the woodwork eventually! I did finally get a couple of pretty good ones on camera when i pulled cards on Friday...There is still a lot of standing corn surrounding my area and i think things will change for the better when that comes down. I will be giving it a go this coming weekend to kick off my PA season...Temps are looking good! Good luck guys and shoot straight!

Well been out a couple times but 3 skunks in a row. Last friday with a buddy on public. He got a shot at a buck but was just a grazing wound. Shot low and steep shot angle. No recovery and I think that deer is still alive.

Took my 5yr old out behind my house in the blind. No deer unfortunately.

Yesterday evening on public for me but skunked again. Bumped some walking in but only turkeys and squirrels on stand.

I got us 5 points for the good guys and some tender vittles in the freezer tonight...first saddle deer also! I’ve been having some good hunts thus far. I shot right over a doe last evening with my recurve and have passed on a couple smaller bucks and does so far. My finger was getting itchy and my freezer is about empty so I picked up the Mathews tonight. Now it’s back to the struggle stick for a bit. Good luck guys, shoot straight!
