Team discussion...Huddle up guys!

Weather looks good again this friday, big temp drop, W (ideal blowing back to my house) to WSW wind, after couple days of rain/snow mixed in, wind remains a little high around 10-14 mph from 20 ish.

Just sat in my backyard Monday with a SW wind blowing NE past me into my neighbors backyard/house (not really into his woods much). Property is West to East rectangle (100 x 300 yds) woods (~6 acres), I sat center of the property about 6 yds from the north border on all the rubs on Monday. Total woodlot Im connected to is roughly 40 acres, with another 40 across a field in the back. If I didnt see anything all morning, you think I really burned it out too bad or you think 4 days rest should be fine? Im thinking its the rut and get aggressive back there. We dont really hold any bucks though so its not in any home range, we just potentially catch them as they pass through.

Not the right wind for the public land I scouted. Was looking at another public piece but I would be going in blind, still hunting looking for sign to set up on. Going in blind I wouldnt go sit in the morning before daylight, but wait for daylight to start walking (maybe cover some open ground in the dark) so would essentially miss first movement.

This is probably the second or third day this year we will hit freezing. Other than that been bounding between 50s and mid to high 30s.

Let me know what you guys think.

Man I wouldn’t hesitate to go back in. Not this time of year. If wind is good for it and your access and exit is clean. I have a decent couple of bucks in my backyard I’m going to set up for when I can’t hit my lease. I’m out today at the VA lease in a great spot - swinging for the fences. I won’t get back here to the lease til Wed. Wife’s birthday weekend is now a 5 day ordeal LOL. Hers my backyard bucks. I have a power line behind me.

Yeah after sleeping on it I think Ill just go in the back again. Like you said this time of year and correct wind...what the hell. I know they always say you only get a few sits before you burn out an area for the big boys, but guess if im going to burn it out, might as well do it now. I just hate staring at the same thing all day. Still hunting is a lot more entertaining. Reason I pulled the plug on it though is I usually like scouting more than setting up to hunt. So for Friday Ill take the "safe" approach and sit and be patient vs trying to kick the door down on his bedroom.

Those are some purty bucks there. Good +14 pts.

Good luck today!

Next two weeks don't be afraid to string a couple sits together, or even pull an all day sit.

I also hunt behind my house. My homestead is 4 acres, 3 of which is gnarly woody brush. The back property line is a utility easement (high tension power lines) that is approx. 80 yards wide. It grows up into a nice bedding area every 3-4 years, and along with that many of the properties that border it have thick woody brush bedding areas along their property lines.

Early season it's real easy to burn it in one or two sits. But this time of year if you want to catch movement you basically have to sit all day. Camera data has shown me between Nov 1.-Nov. 15 we'll get daytime buck movement along my property line, but it can be kind of random.

I'd also worry less about the 'front' that's rolling through and just hunt when you can right now. I think people get attached to fronts and imply causation from correlation. Deer are going to simply start to move more during daylight this time of year regardless of the weather.

Where you at in michigan? Im over by the KOA off 23

For the weather just trying to manage my vacation time to set myself up for the most productive days in any way I can. Dont have but only 5 left for the year. Wife has been pretty good giving me the green light on weekends we dont have anything going on. Think she just wants me to get my moneys worth out of all the crap I bought this year haha.

Yeah US23 just north of the Ohio border. Youre damn near canadian haha

My aunt and uncle have a condo just N of the border outside of Sylvania. We take the kids down there every couple of years and do touristy stuff in Toledo.

I grew up in Brighton/Pinckney and still hunt the rifle opener every year near Alpena.

Nice my grandparents used to have a cabin in Posen on Sunken Lake. Spent a lot of time around that area as a child. Didn't do much hunting then but fished like crazy around those parts with my Grandpa.

Skunked in the morning. Couldnt pull an all day. Dont know if I'm too impatient or what. Came out to some public and found a scrape/rub combo to sit on. 25 yd shot to the tree

Had around 7 deer between 4 and 7 last night from a spike to a 6 and 8 pt chasing a poor doe that didnt stand a chance. 8 pt caught me off guard coming from my weak exposed side (not where I expected them to come from) he stopped in his tracks one he saw me start to pull and darted once I started to turn his direction.

Good area for going in blind. I'll try it again next week probably.

Hows everyone else doing?
