I know the feeling @huck72412 it’s happened to me and really can mess with your head!! You did all you can do man and fate just wasn’t on your side this time. Get back on the horse buddy all great deer hunters lose sometimes but you just need another beast to put down.

Is there a dislike button in Tapatalk? Damn Josh that sucks man. You still are the cleanup hitter so get back in the box man! I’ve had only one encounter with a shooter and he never gave me a clean shot - plus I was on the ground in a ghiille suit so it wouldn’t have helped us. I’m tossing a no hitter right now.

I was hoping to get a doe yesterday but only deer I saw was the buck. It was an either sex day in Va and wouldn’t you know no does to be seen. Had a fat one 5 yards from Friday night but could not shoot her since it’s bucks only except Saturdays next couple of weeks. Back at it today but only 2 spikes so far

One thing this site has taught me is how crazy some states laws are. I'm guessing it's trying to manage pressure? If you dont need a buck and it's a buck day it keep you out of the woods? Or vice versa for a doe?

I’m not sure what the logic is. It can’t be to preserve doe numbers. We have a ton of them. What it does do for me is change my plans on days I hunt. I drive 3 hours to get there and I may not bother during buck only days. If I have a good early season then it’s fine but if I don’t have a couple of deer down when this hits it’s especially annoying

Going back up to my lease this morning got up at 2 AM going after a buck that popped up on Camera this past weekend and I found some huge rubs in the same area so hoping to upgrade if I can

I still have a tag and have a month left to fill it. I hope to at least get another doe but would definitely prefer a buck.

That's where I'm at, but looking ahead at the calendar I'll have maybe 3.5 days to fill it. If I get a doe in range she's going down.

Well guys my saddle season is probably over. Put down a 5pt behind my house from a treestand on friday. Not my biggest but he's the first buck i've ever shot in my backyard and first time i've ever filled two buck tags in season. Was actually out looking for a doe but he showed up instead. 80 yard shot with a slug gun. Hit him in the neck and he dropped like a sack of bricks.

I still have an anterless tag I could fill but doubt i'll be terribly motivated to get out and fill it seeing as the freezer will be getting pretty full. May help a couple buddies do a drive on some public for muzzleloading in a few weeks.
