2019 team 12

I have a confession to make guys. I shot and recovered a doe tonight. before taking up the blood trail I went back to the truck to swap packs (1.4 mile walk one way) and meet a buddy who owed me a favor. got to the deer and realized my saddle was in my hunting pack. pics were taken with no saddle, and points may not be given for it. sorry fellas. I'll still enter a pic, see what happens.
Congrats on the doe! If it counts or not, it’s still an accomplishment anytime someone gets one

I was pretty pissed. walked 2 miles. got back to her and forgot the saddle.. I agree not the end of the world, just bummed

Had a basket 8pt walk right under me this morning along with two does. Three other does went through about 50 yards out.

Had a 5 minute afternoon hunt. He was in bow range and I still didn’t have my release on. I put it half way on and put him down. Went about 50 yards

Nice buck! Love the submission photo . . . he sure fills out that Flex. Way better than looking at other saddle hunter's buttocks! :)

congrats on this buck!!!
Where is everyone else at? I seem to be coming into a "rut lull". I'm seeing signs of deer movement but I seem to be chasing fresh sign. I'll find fresh tracks( large amounts) after the many rains i have had here and set on them but seeing 1-2 deer a set. This is abnormal as in how the first few weeks I was seeing 10-20 deer a sit. Has anyone on here every spot and stalked with archery? I am going to have to go into thick river bedding habitat to find the deer and am wondering how long it take you to travel say 50 yards when stalking or hunt/scouting?

I’ve been lucky if I see 1 or 2 deer per sit. Peak of the rut doesn’t occur until Christmas down here so the deer don’t seem to be wanting to move much. When they do move it’s hard to pinpoint where due to my hunting area just being acres of thinned pines. Not much habitat variation here. When I’m doing in season scouting I tend to move about the same pace I do when squirrel hunting. Walk a few yards, stop and look for 30 seconds or so

Bucks here have started chasing pretty hard in the last couple days. The next 5 days should be great. Does aren't ready. The doe I took Sunday night had no musky smell at all. (didn't get a pic with the saddle so no points for her, sorry)

I wish I hadn't forgotten the saddle in the pic I took of a doe I shot last weekend. We'd be in first place as of the last update. But 4th for a bunch of newbies ain't to shabby

Sounds like we’re doing pretty good! I’m still trying to get a shooter in range before gun season starts. So far I’m still trying to get a shooter in range. Seen a fair amount of deer, but mostly all young bucks

Got the doe wacking out of the way for now. Hunting a tall tine 8 near home & heading to White River NWR midweek for about 6 days. Counting on cold front moving threw Thursday to increase daylight movement. EF6E7F92-D11F-4D0C-B976-6D92AA51DCE5.png

Starting to see small bucks trailing behind does here in Arkansas.

Killed a good one yesterday. Not from a saddle but I already have one down so he wouldn’t have added any points for us anyway

Well Saddle family, after all the complaining last week. I saw my #1 buck from the saddle Friday. 63 yards was where he hung up due to the wind dying causing swirling drafts. I have found 2 scrapes and some enormous trees rubbed. I don't think he'll add any points to our score but at least I know his current home range. I plan to go back in after him saturday and monday. Lets all hope for a south wind so that it is a mile walk instead of a 3 mile walk.

Waiting on a south wind here too! Going to try to hunt the same spot I shot a 7 earlier this year. I believe he’s still alive so I’m hoping he’ll give me another chance to finish the job

I hunted the spot where I shot my previous deer. I shot a coyote out of there that I can only assume was pestering the deer as both sits in the spot I have seen coyotes during daylight. I know where beds for both of the larger deer on my hit list are but #2 has himself in a thicket that is unapproachable without wind cover on wet ground. #1 is not in quite as thick of cover but is so far back that it takes 2 hours to stealthily walk to him. I have learned so much this year about whitetails and feel like it is only matter of attempts before I find myself with a shot opportunity.

Spot check, does anyone have a plan for this weekend? My hunting buddy is out scouting multiple public properties today and I have going at 3 to a new property I gained permission on. Hoping to find some alternative bucks to chase towards the end of this year and early next year, while they're leaving plenty of sign.
