2019 Team 2 Thread

My hunting report

Well I have been out a grand total of 6 times.
Five times in my JX3 on public land and once in a permanent stand on my farm.
It has been a very busy fall fighting bad weather for harvest and machinery breakdowns and family commitments
I have seen 2 coyotes and two bucks that busted me - one nice one at ten yards and I finally killed one today
Unfortunately I only had 1.5 hours to hunt and went to the permanent stand I save for my daughter. It is shotgun week and I used a sabot slug in a rifled barrel sx3 Winchester to take a small buck at 80 yards. Those sabots work well shoot far and are accurate Heart lung kill. It moved two feet and dropped
I grunted a few light grunts at 6:40 am and killed him at 6:55 am

So the result is it does not count for the contest. No saddle
But I got some food for the winter
The first photo is his last meal at 3am on camera

I have seen more deer today than I have ever seen in a single day in 25 years of hunting. No shooters yet mostly does and fawns and 1 spike buck but still a cool experience. It's an awesome feeling watching them and they have no clue your there. I love close encounters almost as much as kills

Dang nice buck!!!! Give us a write up when you get a chance, love to hear that story!

It was my 16th sit if the season the 5th time in that specific spot two hardwood ridges intersect making a saddle in one ridge classic travel corridor with doe bedding out on a oak flat, when I first got in there was already does up 100 yards out. I’m climbed up and almost had my platform set when one busted me they took off, 25mins later I see a deer in the distance it ended up being a buck but I couldn’t tell if he was a shooter, he worked his way behind me still out if range I hit my can call to pull him in but he wouldn’t break away he was following a doe as it turns out. After I couldnt see him any longer I hear a crunch behind me and here this buck is standing at about 40 yards. I get my bow and get into position where I could shoot that direction, meanwhile a doe come up from my right side she stops and he starts walking towards her. He stepped in a shooting lane at about 30 yards and I took the shot. As he ran off I seen a bunch of my arrow sticking out I thought I hit his shoulder blade and didn’t get much penetration. I backed out came back 4 hours later and he was 30 yards from where I last saw him I had got both lungs the arrow lodged in the opposite shoulder and broke off so what I saw sticking out was just where the arrow had slid back out! It was a pretty exciting evening!

Finally got blood on my hands. Haven't had much time to hunt this year and 4 out of the last 5 hunts didn't see a deer. Wasn't passing on a small one this time of year. Added this 8pt to our score with my muzzleloader. Sitting over 25' up in my DIY Kestrel clone with a few early prototype pouches and a Doyle's pouch - if it wasn't for these pouches I couldn't have harvested this buck. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
