2020-21 Goals

1. Spend as much discretionary income on hunting gadgets as I can.
2. Change my mind about what climbing system I like best.
3. Change my mind about what platform/saddle/stand I like best.
4. Spend hours on saddlehunter.com enjoying the fine company and pearls of wisdom available here.

Seemed like after the results of last year's goals I should be a little more realistic.

1) Have a repeat year from the saddle (3 deer in 2019 in 3 weeks, all on Mondays, all by bow)
2) Shoot another buck over 130" (Last big one was 136" in 2016)
3) Better myself at self filming and editing for my YouTube channel (HuntNorthEast)
4) Get multiple kills on camera (Whether they are me shooting or a friend)
5) CONVINCE THE OL LADY NOT TO PACK HER STUFF BY THE END OF THE SEASON!

Pretty much the same as last year. Looking to extend my archery buck streak to 5 years. Something decent, ~100" and up I'm not gonna pass around these parts. I'm a little more cramped for time this year. Took a new job and don't have as much PTO banked up to use during the rut. I think I'll have 5 PTO days plus all the Saturdays. We also got an extra week added on our season and I'm going to use a couple days that week to hunt the downhill side of the peak rut. Always see a lot of toads on their feet that week and it works better for my work deadlines.

I wanted to travel out of state but between PTO and kids it's just not looking likely again unless I punch my tag here in October which I never do.

I want to carve out a few more days of squirrel hunting. I really get a kick out of sniping tree rats with the .22 but only ever get out once a year over Thanksgiving to actually do it.

Finalize my heavy arrow rebuild....check.

Get drawn for Iowa....check.

Go to Iowa and hang stands....check.

Lay eyes on my local target buck from last year. He's still alive....check.

Continue sending out Pods for a Cause....check.

Kill the bear that has been tormenting the neighborhood with my bow...still needs done.

Kill the target buck (hopefully before I go to Iowa)...obviously still needs done.

Kill my 1st Booner when I go to Iowa...yeah, still needs done.

Choose 2 cool taxidermy forms for the bucks mentioned above...this is the easy part.

Convince my wife why I need 2 more heads on the wall, and that said wall has space for 2 more heads...this might be the biggest challenge of the year...lol!

Still have yet to punch a tag with my bow. Usually end up resorting to the smoke pole. So my standards are low. Kill any deer with my bow. One out of my saddle would be a bonus.

Going to have to make my hunts count this season. Just had our first baby. Also going back to school to a be a Murse. My first rotation of clinicals starts four days after the archery opener. Fortunately I already had a week of vacation scheduled the second week of October.

1) be in a tree more this yr then any other
2) shoot a doe and a buck out of my saddle...... Cruzr XC on order.
3) Bow hunt December and January

Not really in any particular order (except for the 1st one), but here are my goals for the season.

1. Get my 7 y.o. son his first deer.
2. Take my two boys (7 and 3) as much as possible.
2. Harvest a mature buck (or 2) in GA.
3. Kill 5-7 deer total for the freezer.
4. Kill a deer in VA with my brother/dad on public land (first OOS hunt).
5. Kill a deer on my private lease (first time ever having/managing a private lease on my own).

Keep it simple...
1. Take doe in early season with bow
2. Take buck at any point during season, preferably with bow, earlier the better
3. Take doe in gun season with 6.5 Creedmoor handgun
4. Get my wife a deer, either sex, any season

I achieved all of these last year except #3.

You had my attention at 6.5 Creedmoor handgun. CVA?

1.) For my family to have a safe and blessed season.
2.) Would love to see my aging Father take another trophy buck. It's been a long time for him and his health is failing.
3.) As always, filling my KY buck tag is a goal every year.
4.) Take a buck from my saddle, more likely to happen on my out of state VA hunts.

1) Put two of my friends on their first archery deer. One is a new hunter who I put on his first gun kill last year.
2) For myself I want have the discipline to pass on lesser deer and hold out for a mature buck. Up to now I’ve never let one walk provided it was legal and I had a tag. Last 2 years I’ve used buck tags on small deer only to see nicer ones later when trying to fill a doe tag.

What are these tags you speak of?

- Become a respectable trap shooter
- Expose hunters to the benefits of saddle hunting by hosting a meetup
- Learn something from every trip into the woods / swamp
- Use the kayak to escape public land pressure
BONUS - replenish the freezer with lean red meat

Goal update - I only averaged 15 in my first attempt at a trap league. I’m calling that respectable only because 2 of my other teammates had worse averages and 2 had better. 2 terrible rounds with the old 20 gauge did me in when my Beretta A400 was in for repairs.

I hosted a meetup last weekend and exposed some people that hadn’t been in a saddle to this obsession. Gave away my Mantis to a young guy that attended since I’ll be riding a CRUZR XC this year.

Definitely learning every time I head out to the woods. That goal will never be complete.

I have 2 spots picked out for kayak access. Just need to DO iT. Come on September, get here already!!!
