Thanks @grc0003 for setting everything up. I think you spent more time in a tree than on the ground. I know, you were just trying to get away from everyone. Lol

Thanks for all the donations from those involved. It was great to put some faces with names. Perfect small group hang out.

Great time for sure.
I appreciate everything bringing their gear so it could be shared and tested for those of us new to the game.

Best of luck to all!!

Decision time:
Kestrel
Kestrel Flex
Mantis

Wore/tried the kestrel, liked it.
Looking at AH's site, like the improvements made to the flex, loops more forward but heard complaints about floppy butt, can anyone expound on that?

Like that tethrd's site I can get a more complete kit with the platform and gear haulers, but that's just cause I'm internet lazy, lol.

Pretty sure I'll start out with the hawk sticks and aiders for going up. I can see climbing as a never ending exploration of gear and mods.

Definitely liked the idea of rappelling down, especially at night or if nature calls. Damn it would suck to have one barking at the hole and have trouble with aiders coming down.

@Ken_bama, what was that rappelling break called and can that be modded to do SRT?

First thing first though.....kestrel or kestrel flex.....?

I’m selling my Kestrel Kit. I have a guy looking Monday. If he doesn’t want it and you decide to go with the kestrel it’ll save you about $100. Plus no wait and mine comes with a pouch and gear bag.

Did you try someone’s mantis out yesterday. I found the kestrel quite a bit more comfortable than the mantis. The good news is with the phantom coming out you should be able to find use mantis kits for a fairly reasonable price. I’d have to recommend against buying any saddle new at this point unless you’re buying stuff that has just been released or is about to be released. I can’t recommend buying secondhand saddles enough, there are deals to be had. @BorderLands

1) Mad Rock Safeguard
2) For SRT you need a Lift Ascender LH/RH + Ascender foot loop . (there are other methods, this is easy for
beginners)

Man I wish everyone wore a name tag with screen names on it. I’m still trying to put everyone’s names together.

I use a kestrel. Hard to beat. Had a mantis and went back to my kestrel. Tried a kite and it’s still the best saddle I’ve sat in. Haven’t any field experience with it. Tried an H2 this weekend and was very happy with its comfort in a short sit. I wish the material was a better quality. Looked cheap. Tried a flex and I felt like I was drowning in the extra material. I wouldn’t buy a saddle based on a kit being available. Comfort should come first. Kit parts can be had easily as you go. Plus you have the option to pick and choose from a variety of options instead of just one company’s merchandise.
The season just ended, so you have plenty time to customize your kit exactly how you want it. Gcr has a great set for sale.

It’d be easier if we actually used pictures of ourselves in our avatars!

Can’t make out those little pics anyhow. Plus some people are masters of disguise. Then there are the guys that have one name in there screen name and it isn’t even their name! Lmao!

Every time I've been to one of these types of get togethers I say the same thing . . . In fact I find myself introing myself as Boyne Bowhunter rather than using my real name. :)
