I pulled a camera the other day on a good crossing. Still a lot of bucks with horns on where I’m at in WV
Coming from a guy who's found exactly one shed antler his whole life, it's hard to fathom that being a "slow year."Starting to pick up in northern NC/ south VA. Still slow compared to years pastView attachment 25404
Lol, thanks man, I love shed hunting and put alot of time into it, I even take a vacation this time of year just for it, been concentrating more on scouting new land this year than looking for sheds as hard as I usually do.Coming from a guy who's found exactly one shed antler his whole life, it's hard to fathom that being a "slow year."
That's rough. Never fun to find them like that when you're watching them grow up so close to home. Sorry for your loss. Its just coming into the time to shed hunt. We still have a few bucks holding antlers. Holding well into March is not uncommon for our herd.
We had a 150ish buck several years ago that still had antlers the 1st week of May! Other bucks had 4 inches of new growth and he still held hard horns.
This is what I found today.
Sucked to find the dead head. I was seeing him almost daily from my house. Not sure what killed him...maybe a car. Crap...he had some potential.

They say the Rut really takes a toll on them physical. I was listing to a podcast from THP and he was talking to some biologist. They said a buck by him self can become easy prey to a pack of coyotes pretty easily when they are worn down like that. Pretty high mortality rate just on fatigue. Its just coming into the time to shed hunt. We still have a few bucks holding antlers. Holding well into March is not uncommon for our herd.

I was thinking..."Man, that's one ugly shed dog".View attachment 25659Don’t be jealous fellas, it’s every shed hunters dream to find a dead possum.
My 4 year old daughter and I walked 4 miles of pastures and fence lines here in OKtoday and found nothing but two coyote kills. She was happy keeping a couple bones though. Mom was less excited.
