Belated, but my 5 gallon success story goes like this...
A buddy of mine and I had sat a few times in various places on the perimeter of this field. Many deer pouring out into the field each evening but we were just too far away to reach with archery tackle. We decided if we got a chance to hunt it again we would just sit in the tall grass on the highest spot. Well we did that on Thursday and around 1600 two little does came out into the field at 130yds. We had previously decided if there were multiples we would do a synchronized trigger pull (3... 2... 1... shoot). I was supposed to take the one on the right and he was taking anything on the left. The one on the right exited the field and the one on the left looked like she was going to follow. My buddy wasn't confident in his Scout BP (hadn't shot it in a long while) that he could hit it at 130 so he told me to shoot. I gently squeezed the trigger of my buddy's Knight BP when she got broadside. It was the very first time discharging a BP for me so I didn't really know what to expect. After the cloud of smoke wanes, I see her run up the hill towards us and into some other tall grass across the field. My buddy hands me the Scout and says he'll reload the Knight I just shot. I hand it to him and he asks for the reloads. CRAP! I had changed jackets just before heading out and he reloads were in my other jacket back at the car. He sighs and says ok hold on. He pulls out a reload for the Scout and commences to loading the Knight. I chuckle and say "Ain't nothing coming back into this field after that boom" and he says "I don't hear the fat lady singing".
Sure enough, about 8 minutes later we see 4 does making their way across the tall grass and they come into the field. They are getting a bit closer and then they spook and run out into the tall grass. I'm scanning where they are looking behind themselves and see a nice 8pt coming across the grass to the field. 30 seconds later he trotted into that field like he owned it. And guess what... the does turned around and came right back in. FINALLY! Our opportunity for a synchronized discharge! He wanted me to shoot the buck (because he was tapped out for bucks this year) so I tried my best to hold the crosshairs of that little Scout on the buck. Honestly it was a bit chaotic whispering back and forth with each other trying to ensure that we each were "on" the deer we wanted. He picked a doe and prefaced the countdown with "I have no idea what this bullet is going to do" cause he had never shot that Scout load out of the Knight before. We couldn't have timed a better trigger pull... sounded like one 5" cannon going off! It took a bit for the smoke to clear and my buddy immediately started showing disgust as white flags went in every direction. I kept my eye on the buck bounding through the tall grass. He didn't look hurt in the slightest. We packed up and went to find the first doe. I bumped her up from where she was laying on the edge of the field in some grass and she ran into the woods. Looked around for a bit and there was plenty of blood (gut shot) so I told my buddy we should go see what happened with the buck and other doe. We went over there and searched until 15 minutes after complete dark. No doe blood... no buck blood... nothing. My buddy said he was pretty sure he had missed the doe and so we went back across the field and into the woods to find the first one. She needed another round when we found her but she was an easy drag out to the field though and an even easier lift into the trunk of my car! Think
@Nutterbuster would be proud. She was small, but she gonna be tasty!
It was certainly an evening of firsts that I won't forget. First deer in that location... first time discharging a BP... first time sitting side by side in the tall grass right next to the only hunter-mentor I've ever known... first time I've ever participated in a synchronized trigger pull. I won't soon forget this hunt. It was a BLAST!

We went back again to the same spot yesterday and took one of my daughters for the last day of our season. It wasn't a success story like the day prior, but it was the best time I've had in awhile sitting with the both of them.
