2021 shed hunting

I go shed hunting every year without finding much, if anything. I typically end up turning it into a scouting trip. Boy was today different.

I started off in a bottom and walked up to a creek. I was deciding on whether to cross the creek, or go parallel to it. I saw some tracks in the melting snow and headed parallel to it. I had only walked 100 yards or so and found this bad boy

I spent the next couple hours following trails and tracks away from the shed. Came across a little forky and what looked to be one from last year.

I was beyond excited to find these, but also getting discouraged I wouldn't find the match to the big one. I was a couple hundred yards from it at this point. I kept looking around the rest of the property, but after a couple more hours, I decided to head back. The only place I hadn't looked over, was the 1st 100 yards in the bottom where I entered. 60 yards from the 1st one was this guy

After looking at my previous tracks in the snow, I literally walked by this one at 12 feet to my right where I stopped at the creek. When I decided to go parallel to the creek, my tracks were 5...FIVE feet from the shed! I basically walked a V around the dang thing. I guess angle of view makes a difference!

Is the contest over? :mask:

Still haven't gotten out - too much snow on the ground for it to be productive.

I was just happy to find them! Pretty cool because I just got permission on this piece 3 weeks ago. I had walked it only once before. Excited to have a target for this year already!
Yes. Those are impressive. I wish you luck for next season.

Hunted yesterday morning, nothing wanted to die, so I went and pulled camera cards. On the way to the 3rd camera this thing was just sitting there. Made a decent day into a great day.

Scouted yesterday and stumbled upon a MONSTER!!!
Those are the ones I find lol ...my brother always finds the good ones. Last year we were together and he found a drop from a 150” 10 point with a 8” droptine on IN public land, the one he found today was public in PA.

Just a friendly tip for guys looking for sheds. If they burn your property, that's super easy pickings for sheds. I find most of mine on fresh burns. White bone against black soot stands out well, and usually they burn because the underbrush is really thick, which means its bedding.
half of the santiam valley burned this year....but dont say arson......black trucks everywhere.my partner refused to evac stayed on his roof with a hose while everything burned around him.rucus rick smart on facebook it was crazy out here.both redneck and gangmembers together bangin on sight wit antifa.but dont tell the govinor

Ive always been a really really bad shed hunter.
i do find them or a few every year but its always by accident.
im sure there are probably specific areas where to look but im not really into it.
id rather hold the horns with the dead body connected lol.

Don't we all. I find it a good way to get some exercise in an otherwise boring time of year plus it's a great time to scout, no worries about pushing deer around, trails are easier to see and finding a shed just tells me exactly where that buck once stood.

Agree 100%. Thats what i meant. I do 90% of my scouting looking for new areas and reading sign.
not necessarily looking fir sheds.
i stumble upon them from time to time.
i find more dead heads than sheds
