2022-2023 Duck Thread

Quick hunt this morning. Dug out the gopro, which is nice because I keep forgetting to activate the dang shotkam. I guess I need to go shoot clays with it until it becomes muscle memory.

Our duck season doesn’t open till thanksgiving day. I don’t teal hunt so I’ve been repairing gear from last season. I really wasn’t pleased with the last batch of fast grass I bought and the fact that the price has gone up I’ve been looking for a cheaper alternative for my portable blind

. I bought two of these reed sheets that are 4x8. I plan on mixing in some miscanthus I’ve got growing in my yard to give overhead cover.

Heading out in the morning for the NH opener of duck and goose with my son and Phin. This will be Phin's first duck hunt. Pheasants opened last Saturday and he made a nice flush and retrieve.

Hustled to get grass down and sold. One group took 100 bundles. Been a good harvest season. Tied mats during the rain this weekend. A 12' blind takes about an hour and a half, but will last all season. We've pretty much got it to a science.

:oops:Wow, I like it

Saw horses with 2x4's spaced the same as the nailers on the blind. Two pieces of bailing twine doubled and hooked to nails on one end with a loop.

Fist sized bundle is passed through the strings, turn the strings then on to the next one. Three guys can do it. Four is optimum. One guy on each string and one or two feeding bundles.

my brother and dad bought me a shotgun for my b-day this year, so this is the first year ive duck hunted since i was just a kid sitting in a slough with 3 decoys and a 410 break action. i got a winchester sxp is what its called. commenting on this post to follow others progress this year in the ponds

Our shotgun deer week rolls right into the 2nd split......which is notoriously awesome. I'm thinking bowhunt some next week, take three or four days for rut hunting with the gun, and then top it off with vac from the 21st until the following Monday.

Little 28 gauge pond hunt this morning. No excuse not to have killed my 5th greenhead.
