2022 Game Changer

Some of these hit me hard haha. I made the decision two-three weeks ago to start cutting back on caffeine, it was to the point where I needed it every 3-4 hours or I’d be falling asleep where I stood, it’s proving to be difficult, on hard days I go right back to it. It really is a hell of a drug.

They say caffeine was responsable for the industrial revolution, before it everyone drank beer lol

Yep. I think I first heard that in Pollan's book This is Your Brain on Plants. Synthetic light and caffeine definitely didn't hurt the 24/7 productivity goals of industrial society.

Another fun factoid...years after the fact Francis Crick admitted he was on LSD when he first visualized the double-helix pattern he later confirmed to be the structure of DNA. And there are multiple stories of innovations in tech in Silicone Valley being "divinely inspired." Apparently run-of-the-mill, bog-standard consensual reality is a bit of a hurdle to jump when you're trying to design a circuit board before you have a circuit board to help you with designing a circuit board.

Are you inferring "Silicone Valley" may be more aptly termed "Peyote Valley"? :tearsofjoy:

If you rub that pot, does a big buck genie pop out of it?

Getting deep in the rabbit hole now lol according to text (accuracy debatable) that the ancient Sumerians discovered the double helix and other odditys via "plants"...I like me some coffee but the French press is a winner over drip coffee and no fuss...I cut back to one stout 18 ounce cup over two pots and feel the way more focused

I switched to de-caff coffee three months ago, and I feel better than ever. I still drink coffee every morning, because I like the taste and just the experience of sipping coffee early in the morning. However, without the caffeine I sleep better, feel more energized all day, especially in the afternoon, and wake up easier. I don't think I will ever switch back to regular coffee.

I really want to do this but haven't found a decaf brew that doesn't taste like trash. What are you drinking? Any decaf suggestions?

I have been meaning to get one of those French Presses. I drink a fair quantity of coffee daily. I usually drink the majority of a pot first thing in the morning and then a cup or 2 at two o'clock in the afternoon. I guess I am in the minority on this one, but caffeine just doesn't keep me up at night. I the opposite issue. I think I could drink a cup of coffee and go right to sleep. I have never seriously considered giving up coffee. I don't know what that would look like except, I suspect, I would not be good company for a week or two.

They had the answer in their handbag.....
It's in our nature (other animals too) to want to get f-ed up....

Wow. Nutterbuster turned this into a cerebral and relevant discussion.
I realized last year that COVID schedules slowly led me to ramp up caffeine consumption, a satisfying ritual turned into a weird work stress coping, over analyzed hunt / life anxiety.
( shopping for a house in this market)
I’ve weaned myself off with tea and limited coffee
Sadly, I know this is true for many with alcohol and now they can “ balance “ out with thc being legal.
I’m going to check out that book

I used to live in Bisbee and bought coffee from him back when he sold it out of the cart he roasted it in. Glad to see Seth is still doing well.
