2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

Thanks! Well my first TN turkey season (first season for turkey anywhere) is about in the books. Not a gobble only got out three or four times and only for a couple hours each time. But got to see some beautiful public land and spring squirrel opens in 3 days. Here is hoping for the fall turkey. Really enjoy working a slate call. Can’t wait for a gobble.
What is a spring squirrel season? Never heard of such a thing.

I'm quickly running out of time myself as this Saturday is it and it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Saturday. The area I like down at APHill has been closed recently and the other place I hunt I can only hunt Saturday's and I missed two of those with my ear not to mention I have tball at 9AM every Saturday. Oh well, it was a good 15 year run

As they say, "it ain't over 'till it's over". If the rain is intermittent try a food plot after a shower. Sometimes they like to get out in the sun and shake off after a rain. Good luck.

Spring squirrel is May 14- June 12 here in TN. Leaving only a 2.5 month gap to deer/teal/wood duck/ and dove season. And you can hunt hogs anytime during another season. I will probably take a kid or 2 and hunt some limb rats with a shotgun or 22. TN is the land of milk and honey.

Ours is 15th through the end of the month. I use it for hogs since they are legal to hunt on public in any open season with weapons legal for that season. I lived in Nashville for a few years, but I unfortunately didn't hunt while I was up there.

Interesting. In MD we don't have a spring squirrel season. September through February is what we've got. I usually just hunt it in February so I'm not messing up my deer spots

I got my first longbird last Friday. Been at it for 10 years or so but only started to 'get it' the last couple. Bird numbers have be really down in PA and this is now the third year running I haven't heard a gobble. Luckily the hens were talking on roost and I was able to figure out where they were and I figured they went one of two ways. Luckily they went the way that was accessible on public via a 1 mile loop. I caught up to them shortly after nine, ran a quick circle and get to a spot just as a longbeard and two jakes were coming across the opposite way into the hens. Couple clucks and scratches and he wondered right over.

I've had the bug since I first called one in off roost back in 2014 but it's been a rough run the last few years. The only move I had was to roost birds, which worked well at the time but there aren't that many anymore and they don't gobble like they did. It's taken some time to re-adjust and learn from some killers I know, but I think I'm rehooked.

51" longbird, 10 3/4" beard, 1 1/4" spurs

We definitely had a good hatch last year, lot's a jakes running around. Hoping for another good hatch this year and some better hunting next.

Last chance I have to get one this spring thanks to work. In a little natural ground blind. We shall see.
I liked how you rigged up your pac-seat. I used mine last friday to arrow my gobbler this season. The Pac-Seat is priceless IMHO.

Yes I’m working up a list of things I want to mention during my review. It’s an amazing system. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m done with every other system or method.
Congrats by the way.
