2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

over all length, from tip of snood to tip of tail ...... i killed a 53'' last year.
How is the snood measured, as they died correct? So if elongated at death than that’s the measurement?

First bird that decided to play this year. Got him at 630 this morning. Came in with two hens to just light calling with no decoys. Dropped him in his tracks. 9 7/8 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs and 20.25lbs. Hens were only about 10 feet from me when I shot and I split them to shoot him.

Been a quiet year here for me in Pennsylvania so far. Glassed this guy with two other longbeards and two hens feeding in a field. Lost them and realized I forgot my mouth calls in the truck. Ran back and got them and took another route back into them. Glassed and found them again still feeding and saw two guys setting up a ground blind a few hundred yards away (from where they were I don't even think they saw the birds) so I made a quick decision and pushed forward in VERY open terrain but luckily I had a low spot I could crawl in. I popped my head up and saw his fan, they were feeding towards me. Got down and waited and nothing. Slowly stood up and didn't see them anymore. I moved about 30 yards into the woods and sat about 20 yards from the field edge and just sat and listened. They gobbled a few times at those other guys calling but I didn't make a sound. Didn't want to give my location away. Sat there for a few minutes and saw the hens feeding in my direction. Took awhile but I let them bring the 3 longbeards right to me and popped him at 40. We ended up shooting two more last week as well and a coyote.

9.5" beard
7/8" spurs

This is a still from a short video a friend of mine sent me this morning. He was going to a job and had these 2 Jakes gobbling at him on the side of the road. He stopped and talked to them and got them to gobble quite a bit. I told him he is some sort of turkey whisperer. It would be great if we could post short videos here without setting up a Youtube or similar account.

He can always find turkeys. It's crazy. These birds had no idea of who they were talking too, lol.

Sharing a pic from my latest testing and I found the holy grail combo of perfect 50/50 pellet distribution out to 20" for my Franchi. If I miss out to 50 with this combo, it's on me and not the gun. For those new to TSS, it doesn't need as much constriction as lead, so start more open than you may think you need. The .585 did very well too, but had a hotter core than the .575, with less in the 10-20" ring. Both are great and the birds I took with a .555 and .568 didn't complain either! I'm just always trying new combos for fun.
