2023 Hunt Plans?

Never hunted out of state but I want to get KY tags this year. I have some coworkers from there that hunt and could maybe hook me up with some private land or there are several public land spots not too far away. Otherwise I am going to work on scouting and permissions for private locally.

Nothing crazy, try to draw out for state hunts. Elk, turkey, and a special trad bow deer hunt on the ammo plant in McAllister.

If I tag out at home on turkey I'll make another run to kansas to try and kill one up there.
Have you done the McAllister hunt before? That is a hunt I have thought about doing for a long time.

I have not, 0-2 putting in for it. My best friends dad has has gone several times and I've been putting in with his group the last two years. He thinks that my one stick and saddle is THE way to hunt that place.

Hopefully a new parcel. I just got a new boss and his house sits on 120 acres and he doesn’t hunt. Fingers crossed, he just has to check with the missus.
So your gonna call in sick then hunt out behind his house when you know that he's not home? Great plan. Wished I had though of it. :tearsofjoy:

Heck he’ll prolly call in sick to our boss and join me! He used to hunt but life got in the way and wants to start up again. I kinda used that as an in, have a spare bow and gear. Had to bait the hook and reel slowly….

Y'all have unlimited vacation or something? Clearly, I'm doing something wrong...

I haven’t called in sick for over 14 years. That gives me an extra two, 2 week blocks. Then normal vacation and comp time. I end up with about 13 weeks off a year. But I’m never sick. Then, my wife is generally sick of me come September and hunting is like a vacation for her too. Makes me leave her alone. It’s a win, win.

Struck out in AZ. Waiting on WY later this month. Just did the NM application and MT later this month. All my CO stuff is in. Still have KS deer and few elk apps. Oh turkey, I forgot about turkey.

In NY: Deer/Bear/Spring Gobbler/Coyote/Fox/Squirrel/Rabbit/Grouse/Woodcock/ Summer woodchucks

I have only hunter out of state once PA 2 Years ago but I enjoyed it and may get Pa/Oh/Ky/WV/tags

Iam going to GA in two weeks and I wanted to try
my hand at pigs but public doesn’t allow it then private does but I have no local contacts. May try spring gobbler there though.

My daughter lives in West Central MO thinking abouttrying to get a deer tag there and KS and maybe Ok during our firearms season up here but it’s to dream all this it’s much harder to carry it to fruition. Did I read you need preference points for KS Deer???

Spring Turkey: 2 in the home state of MA and one or two more in NH and VT

Fall Deer in my home state of MA gives two buck tags. I’d like one with a bow and one tracking on snow with a gun. Im hopeful to get selected in the draw for A doe tag too. I’d like to spend more time hunting new ground, but it’s easy to get sucked into chasing bucks I already have intel on.

Im also planning to track deer in NH, VT and NY during November.

I’d like to harvest 4 deer or more, so that I have enough meat for steaks, roasts, ground, sausage, and jerky.

I would encourage making some hunts in MO and better plan on getting a KS point in April. I'm putting in for KS and expect to just get a point this year and hopefully draw next. It's looking more and more like I am going to skip CO this year. I have a conference in GA that I may have to attend and have been escouting and researching that. The plan over there would be a 4 day hunt starting on the 18th and heading home the morning of the 22nd. Have an eye on a particular area but going to keep looking for a bit.

I'm not planning anything exotic this year. I'm just planning to hunt harder and smarter than last year. That's the plan anyway. So far, since the season ended, I've scouted 35.2 miles of mostly new to me ground.

I've hunted out of state a handful of times and had a blast but dollar for dollar I can stretch resources a lot farther locally.

Bucket list: I'd love to do some archery elk hunting and I've been looking at Africa for years.

So there is no OTC tags in KS for Whitetails?

You can only get a point during the application window too so dont miss it. There is no place on their site that says that either, at least that I could find. I called and the nice lady on the phone cleared it up.

Gonna expand my horizons this year and try turkey an duck hunting. Never once thought about em before 2023. My brother talked me into giving duck hunting a try later this year. The place i hunt deer has a good bit of turkey on it, so i figured why not.
You're in for a treat. Duck hunting is like the arcade version of hunting...

Just the usual for me. Hoping to finally go out west again next year but it's challenging to carve out that much time away from the kiddos. I'll screw around with turkeys a bit in May . Fishing from April-Sept, have a couple trips planned already. PA deer season, and a week and a half of archery camp the highlight of my year. Probably hunt the WV rifle opener again. Been scouting some spots in Western MD also, think I'm going to try down there since their bow season opens a couple weeks before ours.

I live in Maryland so... Plan to hunt deer in Maryland next year. I've given a few halfhearted attempts to learning and playing the points game out west, but keep getting discouraged by reading about points creep so currently have 0 points anywhere. I should have just bought the gohunt app/points info thing.

I am hoping my plans to go back to Alaska include a spring bear hunt, but there's a pretty good chance it'll "just" be a fishing trip. a salmon/halibut/dungeness crab trip is freaking awesome, so I have a hard time phrasing it that way.

And I may have an invitation to hunt pronghorn in Colorado on a family friend's ranch. What I've just said is basically all I know, so that's a long shot (see what I did there? Lol)

In the spirit of you miss every shot you don't take, if you've got a spot available on a future hunt and are willing to take a risk on a saddlehunter.com stranger, I'm game and would of course pay my way/carry my weight/ not burn your spots/all that good stuff. Pretty unlikely that this post results in a new hunting partner but there it is anyway. I'd reciprocate as much as possible, full disclosure that currently the Alaska and Colorado aren't my trips to share currently but I'm building up knowledge and will have some trips that I lead/would be willing to invite someone new on as well in a few years.
Have you ever hunted on the coast for Sitka deer that live in the marsh? My son an I are thinking of 2024
