2025 Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

1/2/2025 …. Morning
10 sets - Chest & Biceps
10 sets - Back & Triceps
7 sets - Quads & Hams
3 sets - Walking lunges
3 sets - Hypertensions
Total time - 1:11

Goal this year
Actually stay consistent for the whole year. Work will dictate that as outages happen unexpectedly.
Definitely moving all workouts and runs to the am so unexpected late work nights don’t sideline me.
Learn how to properly train for running. To this point I just run but I know there is more to it than that.
Weight training will have to go to full body workouts on Monday and Thursdays. Running will be T,W,F and Saturdays and maybe Sundays after a few months of training.
*** I am over the lifting heavy weights more into maintaining good load on the muscle throughout a shorter range of motion.

At 55, my ultimate goal is to be in as good of shape as possible to do the things I enjoy.
Hiking with the wife, playing with the grandkids and hunting hard.

You all have me fired up now. Did a 30 minute session on the treadmill, moderate incline, and it wasn't as hard as I expected. If we get a warm enough day, I'm doing one outside. I think I might be able to hit two miles before a break. If that happens, I could be back to 10Ks by March.

Outside is so much easier than treadmill! unless there is ice/snow/wind. I loathe the treadmill.

Regarding a break while running. Don't be afraid to take them. I used to always beat myself up if I felt like I needed a break and sometimes quit my entire run out of frustration. If you need it, just take it. catch your breath for 30 seconds, 1 minute, or whatever you need. You can't have good days without bad days.

Treadmill 6 for me tonight, 1994 to go lol. Very interrupted by the kids/dog but it's done. Also agree that outside is so much easier than treadmill (it's not so boring) but I don't lot of treadmill miles on days I have my young kids @home.
Good for you! We have a treadmill, I just can't do it. Weather is supposed to be crap this weekend, but it'll be better than being inside I think.

Here ya go. I’m registered. Who’s joining? Good luck with your goals this year!

As long as I can branch out and do some scouting/shed hunting along the way. Saw a massive buck a few years ago along that course. Just sayin'...

I can drop OnX waypoints with my Apple Watch, even during a workout.

join us!
I wish! Everywhere I run there's tons of deer but no hunting allowed. "Off" day for me today, taking the kids ice skating this afternoon so it'll be exercise of a sort but nothing I'm officially counting

I swear I see more deer running than I do hunting. There are a couple spots new spots I've run in that are archery only. I'll be hitting them in fall 2025

Cosign. I've run up on Blacktails, Whitetails, and even Elk during my trail running days.

Just checked the regs. Nothing in there that says you can't deer hunt while running.

Think of how many times you can get into decent shot distance provided you look like you're running...

hmmm....

So, stay with me, hear me out:

For 2025 Season..."Buckathlon"

Think of Hash House Harriers but instead of stopping at bars, you hit all your OnX pins. Run in a saddle, and just use one stick and an aider. Bow on your back. Fanny pack with kill kit. You get one down, run back to your car, and jet sled it out, only you get to be the sled dog.

I'd consider it except the public woods are so busy around here I'm certain I'd have 100 hunters chasing after me for ruining their hunt LOL.

Maybe I should get one of those hickory creek minis to sling on my back. I wouldn't have to carry any layers to keep warm either.

We have a pretty good trail to try that on over here. Could actually hunt 2 states too.

I've got one you can use to make this a reality

Last year I had the freezer full before Thanksgiving. I took a buddy and my nephew to the farm so they could hopefully get a deer. Got them set up in their respective stands, then I went for a 6 miler (a loop on the county gravel). Saw six big does close enough to spit on, about a mile later there was a wallhanger maybe 75 yds from the road, just walking the edge of the woods, wide open, broad daylight. He didn't care a bit about some dummy running on the road.

(FWIW my guys got skunked that day, but we returned a few days later and both scored. about three minutes apart)

One of my favorite spots is close to there. Some great deer in that area for sure

When I started trail running this fall I legit thought of trying to do this. When you don’t act like you’re hunting them you can get way closer. Ain’t no way I can figure out how to carry a weapon without it bouncing all over though. It’s gone through my brain plenty lol. I told my buddy the worst part of trail running is I wanna turn every run into a scouting mission because I’m always seeing a bunch of deer. I’ve found a couple new spots this year doing it that I’ll be in next year though
