2025 Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Which one are you thinking, the 12 hour endurance, if so is that a team effort or just 12 hours of running?
It is only an 11 hour drive for me with no stops. It definitely sounds like fun for you long distance runners but a death wish for someone that hasn’t even experienced a 1/2 marathon… yet.
You guys are the bomb and an inspiration to me, good luck with whichever you decide on.
so what you are saying is that it's a shorter drive than the run, so you're in!

I'm doing the 12 hour. it is not a relay. you don't have to run the entire time. I did it last year and took a few breaks to eat, poop and stretch. I also had to walk most of the last 20 miles of the 42 I did because my knee hurt too much to run. I got 3rd place over all even with all that walking. It was a blast.

For what it's worth, when I did this last year it was only 11 months after my first 1/2 marathon. I highly encourage anyone remotely interested to come try it, even one of the shorter times. I know it's been floated before but I'd 100% do a group relay or race if it isn't crazy far and doesn't affect my existing race schedule.

Next race for me is a 6/7 5 mile race.

Did you camp there? Or close enough to you to show up day of?

Help me understand, is it strictly a 12 hour run and who ever ends up logging the longest distance win or is just complete the easy 42 miles and then rest the last 4 hours?
I would love to drive up and do this but I would need a year or 2 to get ready.

So I went with the intention of camping. I set up a tent and everything Friday night and ate the provided dinner and swam in the camp pool. But I ended up going home to sleep Friday night because of pre race jitters. I camped Saturday night. Barely slept due to leg pain and constant running dreams. my legs may or may not to have been trying to run in my tent. This year I'll camp if there are people I know camping, otherwise I'll just stay at home

last year it was a 3.5 mile loop, unsure if the course will be slightly different or not. it was a great course so I hope not.
But you run as many 3.5 mile loops as you can in the allotted time frame. if time is up and you are on the course still, it does not count.

In my opinion it is smarter to run this race slow and steady instead of fast. Here are the top three people from last year. I'm the third, each time is the time for the 3.5 mile loop. you can see I went out much faster than first place and second place, I finished my first loop 10 minutes faster than first place did. Then you can see where I fell off and they stayed at a more consistent pace. In all fairness I think my hour and a half 6th loop is when I stopped and saw my son who had just gotten off a plane from being away for a week. So don't hold that one against me!

5:00 am 4.26miles in 35:30 @ 8:20/mi pace.
Not a PR or anything but Very pleased with this run. It takes me a mile to warm up and that first mile is usually about a 9:35-9:50/mi but this morning it was 9:02/mi, second mile was a 8:30/mi and it was feeling pretty good. My goal is to run a sub 9:00/mi for a 10K on July 4th.
Have a great day everyone!!!!

That is an amazing feat to say the least. I am very impressed and inspired. I may very well drive up next year, God willing.

@thedutchtouch in fairness road elevation seems way worse in my brain than trails. I don’t know what it is. Maybe because I expect a quicker pace on the road

Did my virtual half marathon this morning. Knee started feeling it at the same point. 2.75 miles in. It lasted for a few miles then started to get better. My previous PR was 1:57. Wanted to get 1:52 today. Half way through I realized I had a chance to break 1:50. Just freakin missed it and I’m bummed about that but 1:50:18. LLLLFFFFGGGGG! Felt so strong. Has to be the best run I’ve ever had. Not to mention the 16 deer I saw, a fox, countless bunnies and cardinals. Beautiful sunrise. Hopefully the start of a great weekend. Also PR for 15k, 10M, and 20k! Think I’m officially setting my October half goal at 1:45 if I can keep the training up

Kick some a$$ this weekend fellas!

trail elevation is easier than road!
Hokie is going to be besting me at races in no time.

did 8 miles this morning then spent 3h or so at the gun club replacing backstops. I'm wiped. now I have to get cleaned up and go hang with in laws. what a day

Unlikely buddy. However, apparently whenever I PR a run I also catch a PB. Would love for that trend to continue. 5.44#. Pics don’t do her justice. Tail of her last meal still in her throat.

Annual town fun run/town festival today so started this AM with a 8 o'clock 5k with my 9 yo. She then went on to play a soccer game right after, then we walked in the town parade, and spent the afternoon/evening running around with friends/my club runs the beer truck so I "helped" ;) . We are all wiped out, the kids just passed out after showering off about 2 lbs of dirt each, I've just showered and am not far behind them...

5:00am run this morning. Wasn’t feeling it but I didn’t want the shame of not getting my first 20 total miles in a week done in a while.
Turned out pretty decent after getting on the road.
8.1 miles in 1:12:51 for a 9:00/mi
22.86 total miles for the week.
Nice work!

My miles had tapered leading into last weekends relay and this weekends half. Time to start building those back before the Baltimore 10miler. Need to get back on some trails too

Thank you. Trails are something that I don’t really have near me. There are a few about 3 hours away when we go visit my father in law but I have to start running around 4am. I just run on the paved roads so I can be back before everyone is ready to get thing done at 7am. I would like to do some trails at some point.

Ran a fast 10K Thursday, weights Friday, then did some kayaking/setting out jugs. Early Saturday morning ran jugs, no fish to report (lake was 18ft high!) - I was tired, but needed to get my run in, so after a big Mexican lunch I ran...13.1 miles like a moron. I was absolutely smoked when I finished, but considering how tired I was to start with, and with a gut full of steak and enchiladas I was pretty happy with it. Weights yesterday, running 6 today after work.

Not that I have ever ran 13.1 miles but if I were to attempt it, it wouldn’t be after a Mexican Buffet. You must have one heck of a tough gut!! I definitely would have been puking my guts out.
You guys amaze me everyday with your accomplishments!! Keep em coming.

4am- 6.26 miles in 1:02:06 @ 9:56/mi

I was attempting to do an easy run averaging 10:30/mi but it stayed closer to 10:00/mi.
I don’t know if it is just me but trying to run at a slightly slower pace than my comfortable pace of around 9:00/mi seems awkward and more stressful to my knees. I am definitely not a runner and haven’t even taken the time to research a proper training program but can someone tell me if my situation is unique or common.
Good luck to everyone and their goals for today… go kill it!!
Thanks
