2025 Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

thanks. it's a hard course with a big mile long hill in it (you can see the elevation profile in the background of the image below). Here are my strava splits (not necessarily accurate for chip time). my coach had me go out conservatively and for once I listened @hokiehunter373
my last mile felt like I wasn't running fast but it was apparently my fastest mile.
check out runsignup.com they have a race finder with a 5 mile filter on it.

All about some negative splits and strong finishes, baby! That final mile with that hill is nuts too!

Here’s mine. Goal pace is from the pace pro strategy I set up. Average is what I actually ran. Pretty happy with how I did and how close I ran to the splits

6 easy (non trail) miles today. Took it easy as Greg instructed. Rest tomorrow. My knee needs it. Hopefully getting back after it Tuesday

why do the distances not equal exactly 1 mile? just not familiar with Garmin, is there a reason?

I'm running easy until Thursday.

Here is my schedule for the week
Su - 4 easy
M - 6 easy
Tu - 8 easy with 30 min @ 8:10 pace
W - 8 easy - probably going to do trail
Th - 2x2k, 4x1k (9 miles total)
Fr - 7 easy
Sa - 14 easy
Su - 4 easy

might change Friday and Saturday up though because I might end up going camping - TBD

I honestly have no idea. It’s something to do with PacePro. When I look at it in the regular lap view it shows even miles

Is that 60 miles this week?!? Hate you lol

Although my run training was cut short due to a foot injury, I completed my first (sprint) triathlon today in Cape May, NJ. Really fun experience, I learned a ton, I was able to push through the foot injury for a grueling slow run, but it’s completed!

Nice work!!

@GreginPA after some research it seems like a combo of things. 1) the map I loaded for the race was only 9.96 miles 2) due to running around people and not on the perfect line, I actually ran 10.05 miles. Those things together must be messing with where the watch thought I was on the map vs where I should have been and what splits I should have been running

56 scheduled for M - Su

Doesn't make sense to me, why should it matter if you loaded a short map? it should still just record your miles actually ran? I assume it has never done this if you don't load a map?

Wore a 30lb pack to mark a property line yesterday in Wild Wonderful West VA. Was less than 2 miles total but the majority of it was so steep we were crawling up 15’ only to slide back down 10’. Watch says recovery time is 99 hours. Lol.

Some pics of the slope and a view from the place we finally got cliffed out.

Coming back down was brutal but my knee did fine with a brace. Getting hopeful I can have it ready for CO
That looks like turkey hiking country

War Eagle start delayed for 30 minutes while storms/lightening passed. Started in the rain at 0700, rain immediately ceased. First half I was on track to make my goals, second half trail turned to doo-doo. I still beat my 2023 time, just barely. Given the trail conditions I'm gonna chalk it up as a win. Great race as always, the folks that put it on are awesome. Anyone even reasonably close to NWA ought to give this a try in 2026 - they do a 10, 25 and 50k.

Did 2 miles yesterday with the dog to work out a bit of soreness.

Only got 6 in due to weather this morning, new shoes felt great. Unfortunately still having some knee pain once I get done, hopefully nothing serious. Mainly on/around the inner knee cap, any ideas from the experts on here? Doesn’t feel torn, more like a bruise,
Only when I get done running, no issue after a 8 mile ruck haha

I don’t know anything about what could be causing your knee pain but I hope it is nothing serious and heals quickly.

I need to say thanks guys. I took yesterday off my morning hill climb routine to rest a sore knee. It rained almost all night and I got up this morning to drizzly conditions still threatening rain. Between that and a still sore knee I decided to bag it again today . . . until I opened the forum and the first unread thread was this one. If you guys can put the miles on running that you do then the least this old man can do is suck it up and go climb some stairs!

Bonus was seeing these two guys up close.

Not positive and definitely not an expert but has it coincided with the new shoes?
3am- Zone 2 for 12.8 miles in 2:27:07, 11:30/mi, avg HR 120bpm.
This was my longest run to date.
Also, last week was the first time I ever went over 40 miles in a week with 47.98 miles.
Have a great day everyone!!!
You’re absolutely crushing it, man! Kudos to ya. Get on strava so we can stalk your stats more lol

5 easy miles this morning followed by 4 sets of strides. Knee felt mostly better. Thought my legs were mostly recovered from Saturday until I did the strides haha. Thought my quads were gonna explode. 5:53, 5:55, 6:06, and 6:17 for them. Rest of the week should look like:

Tomorrow - 2 EZ, 6x1:00 hills, 5:00 EZ, 15:00 hard, 2 EZ (total ~7.5)
Thursday - 6 Easy
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 14 Trails
Sunday - 8 Trails with 4 sets of strides

Last weekend of coaching flag football so hopefully the long weekend miles get easier after this one. We’ll see if I have time to get them all done this week. If I can I’ll be following in @Just_Hangin_N_GA footsteps and getting my first week over 40

Have outside projects that have been my workouts for the most part. Moved 2 tons of gravel in a wheelbarrow yesterday afternoon then took the pups for a walk in the neighborhood with 30lb in my pack (2.4 miles). Rainy today but another ton of gravel is waiting in the driveway….. get that after work. Concrete on Thursday or Friday ( 3yds in a ton of wheelbarrow reps) I think @BTaylor would dig that workout, his trainer would add burpees though

Years ago when we started a lawn business, my first paying job was a river rock(fancy gravel) job. 15 years of sitting behind a desk and the first job was 8 yards of rock with a wheelbarrow, all up hill from the street and the heat index was above 100. Made me question the route I had decided to go. The decision to start that business was the first time in my life I ever did anything purely on faith and prayer. The first year for sure was a mental and physical test but I kept grinding in the direction I felt lead. By the end of the second summer we were over 100 properties and growing.

You are correct, she would add burpees for sure.

Did another ton tonight, ready for concrete.
