2025 Sheds & Deads

I found my first ever shed a month or so ago on a piece of public I frequent. Never expected to find any kind of shed in this area, let alone one this size. This is a pretty big one for the area. Looked to be laying there since probably March or so. I was stoked!

Ten inches plus last night and today up at my church. I fill the wood boiler. We just got a dusting where I live. The church is about 15 miles south of me but higher elevation. It was bare earth here yesterday!!!

I’ve been doing some scouting in NH over the past week. Saw 2 different mature bucks up close. One had shed and the other had not. Back home I’ve not checked my cameras recently. I’m very curious - seems like despite all the deep cold most bucks are holding onto their antlers late. I wonder if this is due to the massive mast crop this year.

This is my assessment as well not sure about why. The mast crop theory seemingly has merit.
 
Saw a young buck, 1.5 year old?, still holding on to both sides tonight on the way home. Then came this interesting graphic on Facebook.Screenshot_20250219-181950.png
Curious if this matches some of you more diehard shed hunters experience?
 
Last matching set I found were side by side in a creek I actually first thought they were someone’s rattling antlers dropped by accident. I was wrong
 
Haven't gotten out to walk this year nearly as much as I usually do after starting a new business a couple months ago, but I got out after work today for a quick walk in one of my old reliable spots and picked up this stud 3 point side. 6 inch base and a little over 21 inch beam.

I’d love to know how they compiled their data…
And how do I get hired to do this kind of research?!
 
I’m absolutely chomping at the bit to get out in the woods and do some shed hunting. But we are having an old fashioned winter. The woods have been blanketed in deep snow for the past month; any shed except those that just dropped will be entirely submerged. The good news is that the deer have been forced into yarding. I’m hopeful that when the snowfall recedes there should be concentrations of shed antlers. In the meantime I’m living vicariously through you guys - so get after it!!

Right now it is 16 and the heat index is 4. At least most of the ice melted off yesterday. Y'all need to come get y'alls winter and keep it up there where it belongs.
