Well, I feel a bit hypocritical kicking this off but after a too long hiatus, I'm back on the exercise train for 2026. I stayed somewhat active over the past few weeks with the kids and dog, and am in the middle of a diy kitchen renovation, but none of those things are "real" exercise to me, so I'm officially starting over today, just for off the treadmill after a 30 min ~3 mile run to start the year off. Goal is to be active every day this year, may be walks or hikes or other things scattered throughout but mostly running, likely building back towards a marathon or a few shorter races to give me a reason to keep at it too. I hope you all stay healthy and get after your goals this year, let's go!

I plan to get back to the running once the season is over in February. I don't want to risk tweaking my knee while season is open. I did a upper body workout two days ago an I'm feeling it..a good sore. I'm also cleaning up my diet, though I have been pretty good.

Ok so I have not made it to the gym! I started tearing out a bathroom over the break! Bunch of crawling, carrying & busting a slab up. Then I was way back in public Saturday evening & fell crossing a deadfall & jacked up my knee. Did nearly 5 miles Saturday 3 or them after my spill. Took it easy yesterday, but did spilt wood for an hour so I didn’t melt into the couch……. I’ll try that again this afternoon. Swelling on my knee is going way down so I’m gonna stick with that this week to stay active.

Yesterday was 5 rounds of 20 sit ups with a medicine ball OH press, 20 DB rows and 20 weighted lunges. The other thing I am doing that started on the first is a 30 carnivore ish diet. I am keeping a protien drink with 1% milk and a 1/2 cup of blueberries and/or black berries as part of my daily diet. Gonna see if I cant lean out a little. Hopefully will be ready for more Debbies by the time the turkeys start gobblin good. Also wrote out an exercise plan I am going to roll with this year instead of just adlibbing like I have been.

Hey all - Happy New Year!
I'm back from a Caribbean Vacation with 11 extra pounds or so and ready to get back to it! For those of you on Strava - all those PR runs I hit last week were cruise ship assisted! I never felt so fast! lol

Does anyone have any races or events on the calendar yet? First up for me is a 25k in April with 4k elevation. So I'll be training hills for the next few months!

*** Arkansas Biathlon 02/28
Bailout Biathlon (Tejas) 03/07
War Eagle 25K 06/06
Possibly Firecracker 5k on 07/04
Possibly Furnace 5k in August
Pecos RunNGun 09/18

Yesterday was 6.2 of hilly trails.

Between hunting hard all fall, peloton rides, intermittent fasting with before work fasted peloton rides, and eating like a caveman consistently (Sometimes I get in a habit of just going out to eat at work) I'm down from 220 late summer to 193 this morning. Feeling great.

I've always been someone where it was naturally easy for me to stay in shape. Marriage and a kid have changed that the last two years but we're getting back to normal.

Forgot about this thread. After a pretty good 2024, I let the first 2/3 of 2025 kick my butt. I went from a strong, lean 225 up to almost 250 (which means I probably was 250 and avoided the scale) in August. I buckled back in in August on cleaning up my diet and currently sit at 228 this morning. My exercise routine slacked in partnership with my diet, so that is a high priority as I start 2026.

I closed NYE with a nice 10 mile hike in North GA along the AT, and then did a 5k run Sunday morning, so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

I set a few health/fitness goals for this year, knowing that they are very ambitious with my wife expecting our surprise 4th kid in April.

1. Get down below 215 lbs, and maintain.
2. Strength train at least 3 days a week.
3. Run a half Marathon ( whether in a race or solo) prior to the October 1 bow opener in Indiana. I've never run further than 6 miles, and its been probably 6 years since I have done that, so I set a very stretch goal here. I haven't regularly run in a couple of years, but still feel rough but capable in the 5k range.

She wasnt big on planning just dive off into whatever workout she seemed interested in for the day. Funny thing, she did my work out yesterday. When we got in the truck, I asked how she liked my programming and she said that it was way harder than she thought it would be.

Big Win. May be the only one for the year but I'll take it. :)
