2026 getting/staying in shape motivation thread

My 6'4" 205# , 24 yr old son called me last week and said he needs to get back into shape and wanted to start lifting with me. We started a new program together last week. He's been complaining about being sore everyday and his old man is currently lifting more weight then him. I know it's not going to last more then a couple weeks because he's 24 and will put muscle on fast but, I've got to say I'm really enjoying it so far. :tearsofjoy:

Was very privileged this past weekend to fly to Nevada to visit my wife (who's on an extended sabbatical out road tripping the west). We hiked at Great Basin NP only a few miles but it's sure tough at high elevations.

Got back home yesterday. Trail ran 2.75 mi this morning.

Saturday I did Hyner 25k. It's a beast. https://www.patraildogs.com/hyner

My watch logged 16.25 miles, 4,700 elevation. Official time was 3:45:21

I felt pretty good to start until I fell pretty bad at mile 5.5 which took the wind out of my sail. It took me a bit to recover, but then cramps kicked in! WOW I've never had my legs completely shut down before. Another runner offered me a vial of pickle juice, I was hesitant but my cramps cleared in maybe 30 seconds and I was able to run! I'm never pouring out the juice from another jar again!

I swore off the race (and running in general) during the course but honestly I would recommend it, I think sign ups for next year are in a few weeks and it sells out quickly if anyone is interested. The camping and atmosphere was great!

Thanks to @hokiehunter373 for rooting me on.
