2026 getting/staying in shape motivation thread

So -
I went to the doc to make sure nothing was really bad wrong and it seems I'm on the mend.
I did the Firecracker 5k with the intention of taking it easy, but when the gun went off I lost my focus. Ran exactly the same time as last year, finished 1st for my (old codger) age group.

Did 5-6 miles of paddling kayak yesterday followed by an easy 3 mile run.

Gonna try AB-x in a bit and see if I tolerate it.

you definitely should. can always do the 6h!
Doing the 6 hours just means I need to run faster to have respectable mileage. (My brain is broken lol)

Thursday I did 1.5 WU, 6 x (1 mile @ LT, .2 mile recovery), 1.5 CD. 150 foot hill in a little under 1/3 of a mile during my first interval crushhhed me. And the lake humidity. Took all the speed I wanted out of the workout but got a good 10 miles in. The rest of the day my leg felt rough so I decided I was sleeping in Friday and taking the day off. Leg felt amazing. Did an easy 11 on Saturday and took ibuprofen when I was done. That helped. I think I’ve clearly still got some issues going on and it’s getting inflamed a bit post run. During the runs it feels fine. So just experimenting while trying to continue to at least keep a base and hopefully build.

Back to the gym this morning followed by the sauna. Gonna listen to the body as far as the runs go. Hopefully 9 tomorrow and 10 Wednesday.

Yesterday was pickleball. Thursday evening was weights but I dont remember exactly what. Saturday morning I went and hung a couple cams out in the mountains and tested some new video and audio equipment.

Monday evening was pickleball league and yesterday was mow edge and clean up the yard plus bow shooting.

Vacation last week with the family up in Northern Michigan, so not much activity there beyond lots of walking steps every day and a lazy 18 hole round of golf with a cart.

Got back after it here at home and ran a hot 2.5mile loop yesterday after work. Pretty rough, and very sweaty, but good to be back after it after some time off.

Did legs & arms /chest circuit at the gym Monday then & terrible 10-1 complex ladder yesterday at home. Today is an off day ( will still hike 3-4 miles with the pups after work this evening) then back at it tomorrow at the gym & maintenance hike on Saturday

Yesterday was 10 minutes of intervals on the spin bike, then 25 minutes of incline treadmill, and then 3 rounds of leg ext., hamstring curls, shoulder press and tri's.

welp. my running has been not great because I was one of the PA people affected by the 7/4 storms. Just got power back last night. lost 2 trees, my shed, some minor equipment. lots of headaches.

Tuesday I relieved some stress and did 6x600. tonight hoping for 10 trail miles if the weather cooperates.

there is no amount of miles that is not respectable if you are moving for 6 hours
Come on, you know you want to.

7/7 did an easy 9 and hills
7/8 went to the gym for a bit treadhill workout and they didn’t have electric. Ended up just doing 8 easy
7/10 10 easy
7/11 7.5 trails then 2.5 miles of hiking with the family
Weights today. Goblet squats. Bulgarian split squats supersetted with single leg RDLs. Calf raises. Dumbbell rows supersetted with dumbbell presses. 15 min sauna.

Time to ramp it up and see if the leg is gonna let me do it or fail. Easy runs tomorrow and Wednesday. Heading back to deep creek lake Wednesday night. Planning on hill intervals on the hill that took me down July 2nd Thursday morning. Probably fish Friday morning. Long run Saturday. Easy miles Sunday. Stay after it everyone! Deer season is quickly approaching

i started running Wendler's Krypteia program a month ago: https://www.jimwendler.com/blogs/ji...ning-for-size-strength-and-athletic-dominance

essentially keep 5/3/1 programming on main lifts but do a circuit of 3-4 exercises as assistance - one each for push, pull, hinge/squat and abs (if done during circuit).

so for example today's workout:
bench first week top set 215x9
circuit x5 (4min)
-bench 165 x10, x8, x8, x8, x7 (i picked weight of first set, can alternatively use 40-60% of 1 rep max)
-pull ups 10, 7, 5 → DB rows 50 x10, x10 (switched due to fatigue, i suck at pull ups)
-Db squat 50x12

killer.

Monday: 7 mile run @ 9:29 average
Tuesday: Gym
Wednesday: 1 mile warm up, 4x800s, 1 mile cool down
Thursday: Gym
Friday: 6 mile ruck 35 pounds @ 1:23
Saturday-Sunday yard work and dog training

Have a great week everyone!
