Haven’t read through all 30 plus pages yet but will take the time to do so. What are most looking to accomplish in this thread? I understand getting or staying in shape but would like to ask the question of specificity? Is anyone doing “sport specific” exercises for bow hunting? I haven’t delved in yet but, would think the back and shoulder would be the key points to target and build from your core out. Would like to gather some thoughts and opine. I could add in some exercises for all to perform if anyone would be interested?

Pickleball league last night. Took a liter and a half of electrolyte mix and ran out. We even pushed the start time back to 7:30 and it was still brutal. Forecast high today is 102 with a wind chill of 110+. I am so over summer.

Yesterday was weighted box step ups with 2x35 dbs, thrusters, hamstring curls, cable tri's and push ups with feet on the box.

I mean all of it makes hunting easier. Packing in and out. Hanging sets. Dragging deer. The more in shape you are the easier all of that is

Absolutely. When I say specificity, I should clarify what are you doing to strengthen the muscles that are used to draw your bow. I am working on a a few things that specifically address those muscle groups and will share soon.

I'm drawing my bow to work those muscles. Draw is fine, I'm not so steady holding it at the moment though.

Mainly accountability & camaraderie for guys to get & stay active. Lots of different goals here. I’m training for a western backpack archery elk hunt. I’d say most of my focus is functional strength, aerobic threshold, hiking til the wheels fall off! For archery specific exercise I’m shooting a ton , mixing volume with high pressure shots…..

I drew an elk tag and will be hunting in Wyoming in Sept with a buddy. I'm WAY behind in my training compared to 2023. Been doing rucking and rowing on the ergometer, but fell off the weights. Trying to do a bit of a sprint on weights to make sure I've got enough muscular endurance to hump it in the mountains. At this point I'm working on flexibility, ligament strength etc, vs. ability to pack out a massive quarter. If I should get so lucky, I'm either going boneless, or we're gonna be doing a mountain bbq and eat that thang where it falls...

Ran a 5k Sun, Mon, Tues, and Wed. Probably taking a breather the next few days while I go out of town on a short family vacation.

Pretty encouraging to look back at the first fitness test I took back in October, when it was a lot cooler than the 90s we're sitting in now. Still not sure why my heart rate stays so high. Screenshot_20260722_141055_Photos.jpgScreenshot_20260722_141052_Photos.jpg

Just gotta slow down. The heat certainly doesn’t help

Got in almost 9 yesterday. 8 easy and 5 hill strides. 8 today in the form of 15:00 incline at 15%, 10 x (5:00 working, 2:00 recovery) @ 6%, 18:00 cool down. 2600+ foot of elevation in the first 6.25 miles. Should be weights tomorrow. 9 easy Friday. Trail half Saturday. Trail 7 Sunday

Mon-wed at the gym various levels of suckiness….. finished last nights 2 different db circuits with 3 sets of heavy farmer carries. Been getting after it today was cardio then 1 more strength workout tomorrow & 6-7 mile hike Saturday

I’ve been having phone issues. Tried to fix it yesterday and somehow that lead to watch issues. I didn’t realize it but yesterday afternoon my watch was showing the right time but AM. Needless to say my alarms were still set on the watch this morning and didn’t go off so I missed 9 miles on the nicest temp morning in weeks. Debating if I’m just letting that go or trying to add some of them to Saturday/Sunday runs

This is a series of 8 exercises that covers the entire shoulder. From a physiological standpoint, these series of movements cover all muscle groups in the shoulder that are activated when drawing your bow. Posterior, Medial, Anterior, etc. They are designed to strength shoulder stability by targeting the rotator cuff. You do 10 reps for each exercise for a total of 80 reps, and that is considered one set. I would suggest doing 3-5 sets and starting out using no weights and work your way up to 2.5, 5, 7.5 or 10lb dumbbells. I can’t stress enough to not use heavy weights while performing this routine. Using heavy weights could lead to an injury with losing form and the amount of volume. This is a routine from my college days working with collegiate pitchers back when I did some strength and conditioning coaching in college. I have added some exact graphics with the correct form and others with notes that doesn't quite hit the mark. The exercises are to be performed with control and good from.... ie do not just blow through them, take your time and focus on control and form. If you think I have provided something that is incorrect or have questions, please let me know. I will have some other stuff to add before long.

V-Up or 45 degree thumbs up lateral Raise

Imagine doing a front lateral raise, but rotating your hands to a thumbs up position and lifting in a 45 degree position forming a "V" when lifting.

Cuban Press

The graphic below displays the sequence to complete 1 rep. You are to complete the rep to the should press and reverse the order back to the start. Once you return to the start position this concludes 1 rep and you are to do a total of 10. This is one that can get you and you should really start to feel the burn.

Internal / External Rotation

Take and hold this slot and rotate back and forth across your body just like the motion below with both hands. Be sure to keep you elbows tucked in tight next to your side. Going from one side to the other is one rep.

Cross Over Lateral Raised Fly

Picture used is to give an ideal illustration of how to perform the move, but you start with you hands crossed at the waist and perform that motion with a straight arm opening up. Follow same plane of motion back to hands crossed at the waist.

Was away for a bit and couldn't run as much as I wanted to. Got back into town Wednesday night and put down 47.5 miles Thursday through Sunday (today). really trying to work on my endurance for running on tired legs in preparation for my 12h endurance run in a month. Been fighting the urge to do another 2.5 before the day is over so I can hit 50 for the week, but I'm gonna pass. Taking a mandatory rest day tomorrow.

Feeling blessed to only be feeling tired instead of injured.
