2026 getting/staying in shape motivation thread

Got a couple of free hours yesterday afternoon, so I figured I should do a longer run. Ended up running 6.5miles, with an extra 1.1 mi cool down. Definitely getting more comfortable on these 10k length runs, so I need to add some volume and push more toward my half marathon goal.

Feeling fantastic. Not sure if I’m going for speed tomorrow or gonna repeat last weeks treadmill torture. It seemed to really pay off this week so tempted to hammer that again. Thursday weights and sauna. Friday easy 9. Saturday and Sunday should combine for around 23 trail miles. Keep getting after it!
I had to go and jinx it. Repeated treadmill torture Wednesday and crushed it. Thursday went as planned. Friday was a struggle but got 8 miles in for the day to conclude my first ever 160 mile month. Saturday and Sunday I didn’t have time/energy for trails so I stuck to the road. Sunday I figured I’d do some speedwork since I was missing out on trails. My ankle didn’t like that. It’s the first legit speedwork I’ve done since I rolled it this last time and I’m theorizing those things are correlated but not really sure. Rested Monday and that helped. Easy run this morning and felt some soreness again that’s lasted. Probably gonna give uphill treadmill a shot in the morning. The good thing about that is the angle makes it less pounding on the legs. If it hurts I’ll do the bike. Hopefully it resides soon. Sick of this ankle

Ran a quick 6 on pavement Monday, 12 hours of sedentary office work yesterday.
Gonna try to get two miles at lunch today and hit the weights after work.

I am up to my eyeballs in sedentary office work. I think in an average work day I probably spend 5.5-6 hrs actively on the computer, and another 3-4 attending in person meetings where I wouldn't have to sit at my desk.

Definitely one of the biggest reasons my health has frequently slipped over the years when I get complacent, and also one of the best motivators for being very active now in my late 30s. Gotta keep grinding to retire early from billable work so I can focus more on back office strategy and long term planning/ vision for the family businesses.

Yesterday was leg press and calf raises, lat pulls, abs, and push ups. Started though with a dead hang. Been working on that lately. Managed a minute 25 seconds. Want to get that up to at least the 2 minute mark.

Just ate 2 slices of pepperoni and a cannoli...

Hitting gym every day. I've been making myself knock out a few reps at the weight bench after every treadmill session. Don't enjoy it as much as running for whatever reason, but I'm getting a little here and there
