2026 getting/staying in shape motivation thread

I tell people all the time especially when I was personal training, if you can’t lose weight doing the basic thing we know of to lose weight then it’s best to get genetic blood work done to see exactly what’s going on. Low T is a huge one, I have friends that have Low T and they’re in their 20’s which is downright unacceptable. Cleaned their diets up before TRT discussions and their T shot up. But losing fat is much easier than boosting T.
Low T is an absolute killer. I am an advocate for TRT and urge all to get your levels tested once you hit your 40s.

Monster is correct. You need to determine within the ball park your BMR (basal metabolic rate). This is the amount of cals your body burns just to operate. After that start at a 250-500 cal deficit with exercise. Just work towards getting in 10000 or more steps a day to start off. Yes, you will have to count cals for this to work. It can be laborious, but it is what makes the difference.

BMR Calculator
Thank you. I'll look into the BMR and report back.

My wieght has been up and down, currently trending down, but getting those steps in might be a huge help in your situation. You burn a surprising amount of calories walking casually
Indeed! Unless you’re training for a 5k or marathon or just plain love running it’s pretty much useless and more damage than xp. Walking or rucking/hiking accomplishes the same affect as far as calorie burn and fitness is concerned without all the running. The same with bench pressing, unless you’re training for a bench comp it only gets you better at benching there’s not much carryover. Running mainly only gets you better at running.

My wife just got on me she said “leave it up to you to be on a saddle hunter forum still talking about fitness” lmao fitness is my main jam outside of hunting in life, I think it’s so important that every man woman and child should do some level of it from 0-death. We are stuck in the meat sacks for 75 years if we’re lucky, why not have it running like a Porsche. Sure a duece and a half can run on anything and go most places but they’re rough as hell and ugly (depends on who you ask) lol It’s a journey we all take a lifetime to accomplish and everyone starts somewhere the main thing is starting.

Yeahh it happens. I’ve avoided jobs that are desk types for that reason lol I think chairs are the worst invention against health and fitness. Sitting is a silent killer in so many ways.
Yeah but we got that store bought air and a kitchenette just down the hall to keep the nutty buddys chilled.

Did 3.5 mileson trail hauling pistol/rifle/ammo, getting mini runngun set up for next weekend. Did it with two buddies and it sure seemed hot.
Heard this morning it was 106 in Tulsa, so probably 108 down there lol.

Back to running this afternoon. Only supposed to be in the 90s.

My daughter turned 18 and I turned 50 in April. I took the next two months to mentally prepare myself for some lifestyle changes and integrate some better habits.
Step one was ditching nicotine. What I didn't expect was the desire to eliminate domestic light beers from my diet as well.....it just happened. Fast forward to now and I am in the best shape since probably around 40. This is the FIRST time I've put it all together....diet, exercise, AND the elimination of nicotine and alcohol. What I've noticed is that I sleep better, my recovery is shorter, and I don't miss any of it.
My workouts are short and simple but consistent and intense....bodyweight exercises like dips, pull ups, push ups, etc. I own three sets of dumbbells...15, 25 and 45's. I use them for everything else. Two 45's is almost 2/3 of my weight as I'm a ripped 145# right now. My 64# longbow feels like a toy.
There is no trick. Consistency is the key. You have to be able to repeat over and over and over. The results will speak for themselves.
I read something the other day that is sticking with me......"Getting old isn't about being invincible, its about being hard to kill...."

Yesterday was leg press, leg extensions, sit ups, back extensions and RDLs plus 10 minutes on the spin bike.
