For my strings, I either do 14 strands with 0.021 serving or 12 strands with 0.030 serving. I pad the string loops on 12 strand strings. That gives me a good Goldtip nock fit. I build separate stings for wooden arrow from 16 strands of B55. That and a 0.021 serving gives a decent fit on Bohning classic nocks.Anyone have a preferred serving material/size if I was looking for a good fit for stock nocks on a .204 (safari tuff)?

Looks good! what's the layout?Inbound for @Crcusmonky
An Amazon serving jig is $10. While you can probably 3d print one, I feel the rough nature of filament can cause string damage. Also you would need to buy bolts and nuts...make life easier for yourself. A DIY jig is an easy project, but making one without a jig is not hard either.Darn yall, had me tinkering with my string for no good reason and I went to take Amsteel whiskers off and knicked my bow string.
It’s time!
I need a run down on the bare necessities to making my own strings, I’ve put it off for long enough.
- Make my own jig or buy?
- Serving tool or alternative (3d print?)
- String and strands for a 55lb hybrid longbow 58” long
- Serving size for Easton axis arrows
- Other tools?
- One stop shop for everything?
Did you make or buy a jig?@gcr0003 jig and serving tool make it waaay quicker if you’re going to mess around or continue to make them yourself it’s prob worth it whether you buy or DIY the jig
