2026 Trail camera thread

Sounds like that deer volunteered for the dinner table.
Yeah what bothers me is he often has his daughter collect and deal with all the deer too. She loves it and is also a burgeoning taxidermist. So glad she wasn’t in there that day. At the end of the day you never can predict for sure what a semi-wild or wild animal is going to do. Like my buddy who is really good friends with the guy says, “that’s why we kill deer not have them as pets….” ….yep.

Hows he get it to pee where he wants?

Maybe the buck was feeling either overstimulated or neglected?
I am. Not 100% sure but they collect with stainless steel buckets after a lfeeding and watering session. They can pretty much tell by having and observing the animals so much and for so long. Nothing is 100% and his operation isn’t anything sophisticated but his stuff is pretty much from the deer(s) direct to the consumer.

Pulled some Cuddelinks in for winter maintenance, these two pics good example of a 3 year old buck vs a mature buck. I suspect the big one pushed several other bucks off the property this year.

I got a reinforcement of a valuable lesson last night: you can’t kill a giant if you shoot a nice one.

Last year I had planned on hunting the big woods and camping out of my truck at the end of October. I shot a nice buck two weeks prior to that so I canceled my camping trip. l mentioned yesterday that on my shed hunt I grabbed a camera, I get home and check it and sure enough, giant walks by the day I would have been there. Does that mean it was in the bag? Of course not, but the lesson is stinging a little today. video is easier to see all those points, but I count at least 13, split brows, kickers on g2s. Enough to get me pumped for next year!

This is from a card I pulled off public, pics are November ten days apart… what do you think happened and did he survive? Think he took an arrow high?

I've had that happen twice to me. Didn't hunt cause it was too hot etc. and sure enough, my target buck walks by at 18 yards. Very aggravating.

Hard to tell. The first pic definitely looks better than the second. They are pretty tough. Looks like he’s still able to traverse the landscape ok. Big question is winter conditions…. dealing with extreme cold, deep snow with a wound can be costly. I hope he made it. Off the cuff? 75-85% survival rate with a moderate winter.55-65% chance with a harsh one with coyotes. Maybe less.

I thought this was a fox or rabbit in its mouth….. nope…. Buddy was able to go in the next day and he found a fresh deer kill….. he traverses his land a lot this wasn’t carrion. The place is loaded with rabbits and field mice as big as your hand and what do they tear into…the deer……

I was skeptical at first but this coyote was most likely actively hunting the deer he has pieces of in his mouth in the picture above. Look at his posture and body language, Ears up, sneak walking… focused….this was almost 11pm on the 24th, I’m going to say the kill was made around midnight to 1am on the 25th. By almost three they were ripping amd tearing for the remaining parts. You can clearly see this is the same coyote.

I went up about two days later and right near this camera is a big puece of hide. No muscle or anything on it just the hair and leather. Like they skinned it out. My buddy doesn’t really mind because he’s sick of the deer browsing all his timber. We have plenty of deer but I’m always thinking they’re killing my next buck…..

Yeah can’t imagine how uncomfortable that spot would be, and how much heat lost, through a real cold spell.

I hit one and didn’t het him, pic was taken 10 hours later by a drone. I believe it was 1 lung shot, blood was good and gave him 4 hours before I started to blood trail and lots of bubbles and blood dried up within 60 yards of shot. Anyway though he would be dead there in the morning, and he wasn’t there just a pool of blood. Drone guy came in the next day and found him bedding with a doe and he seemed to be fine. Hopefully he made it if not I am hoping to find his head.

Man, you’d think you’d find that deer.
