8mm Oplux questions & uses

In this case, they are more of a nice to have than need to have due to the small knots using this rope, at least for me. Not like a typical 11.3 mm rope.

I agree 100%. I bought some of the wild edge oplux to use as a linemans belt, just because I'm at the point where I know what I want and want all of my gear to be spiffy. The practical advantage of knotted vs sewn is 0.

If you wanted to make a Oplux lineman belt and a tether how long would the pieces be if you were to tie knots like the ones on this tread?

To do a figure 8 with a 5" loop like the picture I posted, you can factor in around 36" of rope per loop, plus the length of the tether or linesman you want. The knots eat up more rope than you think. Others may have different suggestions as well on measurements.

I’ve been wanting to ditch my Tethrd lineman’s belt and tether for a while now. I also have two ropemans and 3 of the Wild Country carabiners. I never liked the sheath on the ropes, the biners seemed big compared to my Black Diamonds and the ropemans, although convenient, seemed unnecessary. I just placed an order from DanO for 3 Mad Rock Super Tech Biners, 20’ of Oplux, and 2 Beal Jammies. I think this is going to be a simpler and smaller package overall.

I plan on turning the 20’ of Oplux into my new lineman’s belt and tether. Assuming the knots take up 3’, that should leave me with 2x 7’ lengths. Check the classifieds soon if your looking for a pile of Carabiners, ropemans, and Tethrd ropes!

i'm trying to figure out how much oplux to buy for a tether. i want a girth hitch loop at one end (probably figure 8) and a very small overhand loop on the other end just for putting the tag end back up onto my biner. i'd like my tether to be 6 to 7 feet long. any other input on how much i should buy?

I saw the sewn Oplux tether from WE. But I'm looking for a 35' length with a sewn eye to use as a rappel line. Can't find a source. Might just have to settle for a fig8 loop knot on the end instead of the eye...

I've been considering buying 50' of Oplux for SRT. My Madrock Safeguard is the only reason I haven't tried. The Safeguard recommends 8.1mm for rescue rigging and 8.9mm minimum diameter for climbing.

How much weight will you save with the Oplux linemans's and tether compared to the Tethrd gear with ropemans? I'm assuming you'll use the Beal jammy instead of the ropeman?

Not sure on weights and honestly that’s not a concern of mine compared to bulk. I should be able to cut down substantially on how much bulk those pieces create by making the switch. Less room taken up in my pack, pocket, dump pouch, etc.

I used 9 ft to get a 6ft tether.

The savings is in bulk. I can get my backband, tether, and lineman’s in a single 1 quart molle canteen pouch.

Ok, gotcha. I can already get my Tethrd lineman's belt, tether, 2x carabiners, and 2x ropeman in a single SYS hauler.

I'm always looking to cut down on bulk, weight, and generally simplify my system as well. It's a sickness.

My 35 ft rappel rope is about the same size as a Tethrd tether and linesman combined. If they come up with anything thinner and lighter at this strength, I am going to feel like Spiderman!

Are you using OpLux? I would have bought some already but it won't work with my Madrock Safeguard requirements.

I am testing with it, out of spec, with a backup autoblock. So far I see nothing to concern me and will use it if it ever gets below 60 again in NC so I can hunt.

Yes I am on my mantis, adjustable with a beal jammy. It works good.

I am using oplux and a jammy as an adjustable bridge. It binds up really tight and is hard to unload. I have a shizll I can try with it.

I wish I could find a 5 or 6 mm sewn eye to eye cord to use with a distel hitch on oplux.

The material of the vt-prusik is very unique. They claim it works on ropes down to 8mm on the video. Might be worth a try.

I guess I shouldn't be too concerned on the ascent, the ascender would keep you from falling but the Safeguard is holding all your weight at times. I'm guessing they're concerned it might bind the device somehow??? I'm gonna email MadRock, interested in what their thoughts are.

Might also have trouble on the rappel finding an ATC that allows a single rope that small. Double, no problem.

I could not get Dano's tender to work for me. Seems too short for the Jammy. I have already broken two. I really wanted the prusik and tender combo to work for me but it hasn't. I will have to try the ropeman 2 or Kong Duck.
Fyi....I noticed Dan O is now selling a different tender....could be others were having an issue similar to yours

I’m doing the same and have not had an issue
