8mm Oplux questions & uses

Holy Moly! That pic and the content list just sold me.

Just to clarify, I DO NOT carry all that with me, only threw that stuff in to show what you can do to answer the question asked, and I didn't even cram that in, so you could fit even more.

I ordered 40’ last night. For that weight and packability I’m going to climb up with spurs and rappel down.

For those of you who are either cheap like me or would like to try a prusic tender before spending the money on a nice one this option costs under a dollar. Of course it’s not as nice and smooth as the commercial options but it works with one handed operation just fine and costs under a dollar. I SRT now but I still keep one of these on my “just in case” linesman’s belt that I keep in my pack.

Thanks for sharing video.

Sterling 6mm TRC IS 15.5 kN and jammy is 22kN.

I think I’ll stick with the jammy. That is, unless someone can think of a better reason to use the Sterling.
Yep, not sure there is a reason to switch to the TRC, just showing it is an option. The TRC does release better after loading it up, that's the only advantage I see. Main reason I ordered the TRC is I wanted something robust that was in spec of Harken Micro Cam Cleat.

I just tested my oplux/jammy/distel on my son’s playground.

I hung in them off of my RCH harness belay loop and put my full 275lbs on it. Tending in the jammy with the DanO tender was quite easy. Putting slack in while partially weighted sometimes got difficult ( had to fully unweight and loosen the loops a little)
That should not be an issue, i don’t mind that once in a while on my tether.

I also used my lineman’s belt loops and tended and loosened slack while rope around vertical post. No issues either tending in or out.

That was my unscientific observations.

Which one do you think you are you going to use the Jammy or TRC?

Is there a friction hitch that works with the same size rope? 8mm with 8mm instead of say 11mm and 7 mm?

Yes. The VT Prusik is the only one I know of that claims to work with similar size rope due to the specific material makeup.

The VT works great on 9mm HTP, haven’t tried it on anything smaller but their video says 8mm is ok.

My knowledge on the uses is just based on the video (attached). I’ve only used it as a VT but the video mentions other options. Not sure if it’s long enough for a distel though.
