Just thought anyone thinking about making the switch might want to see a side by side comparison of bulk. The 8mm is actually a foot longer than the 11mm.

Whats your complete setup there with the 8mm rope? As far as length. What type of rope. What did you use on your tether for the prussik? Where did you get the rope sewn at?

Wild edge has pre sewn loops on 8mm tether/linemans belt. Kong duck is on tether, 6mm cord off Amazon for the prussic, but i have a ropeman 2 around here somewhere that will be on my linemans shortly.

Here is what I have been pondering- I sometimes use an Oplux linesmans but then sometimes I use up to a 12mm my thinking is if you were to lose your footing you would appreciate additional friction slowing your descent. While I like the compactness of the 8mm it doesn't offer much in friction in this application.

I understand the thought, but I have gone several hours up a couple different trees with my new 8mm set up. Not worried. I single stick and keep tether tight as I climb, I rappel, so i almost never have slack. Without slack, I can't slip and fall.

Is the 6 mm cord an accessory cord? I'm trying to figure out what size cord I can get for a friction hitch for my 10 mm tether. It cam with a prussik loop. Thanks

Hey thanks for posting this. I’ve been searching everywhere for a side by side comparison. Goodness. Haha. I’ve been debating on getting the 8mm or 11mm. Not sure. Any thoughts. I have bigger hands and feel like 11mm visually and conceptually might feel better. And when I first learned about saddle hunting, all the videos I saw were with the 11mm rope and the Ropeman 1, so my brain is used to those. Have never seen them in person but it looks like the Ropeman 1 works/functions better than the Kong. Any thoughts to help me in this battle. Needing to choose soon. Thank you again.

Where you located? Best advice is to try and hook up with a saddle hunter close to ya. You can gain so much knowledge just by trying stuff out.

I've used ropeman and kong, yeah the ropeman is a bit more popular. But my kong duck has never given me trouble. I'm all about less bulk, less crap in the woods. Its a no Brainer to go 8mm.

Just posted in another thread also. Thanks @Brocky

Brandon@arbsession.com made me three of these, tested them and posted the information up on their site for anyone looking for a really nice tether and lineman’s belt setup. They are really nice dudes and also do custom work on whatever rope you send in or that they have or can get.

I have a saddle that has Edelrid rope for the tether and linesman rope. One is green and the other is brown.
They are NICE ropes!
This thread got me down a worm hole and @Brocky had some of this stuff to check out. I found arbsession.com and away they went. They loved it so much they now offer it by the foot in the link above already sewn for a LB or tether.

How do you like the dynamic rope for a tether? Since I started one sticking a few weeks ago, it really started making more sense to me to climb the tree with a dynamic tether. Seems like no matter how hard I try to keep slack out, there are always times when I step up to the top of the stick and there are just 2 seconds where I have several feet of slack. Dynamic seems safer here if I were to take a fall in these 2 seconds.

I am not one sticking so I can not speak on that subject at all. However, I do agree with you and your thought process as to why the properties of this rope would be perfect for it due to its abrasion resistance and dynamic qualities. @Brocky might be able to give you the “scientific” answer you seek better than I can.

The stretching and cut resistance were what got me interested, being firm and staying round were a bonus. Glad the testing went well, would be interesting to find what the break strength of the rope itself is.
